Running now the nights are drawing in

What are everyone’s plans for running in the dark now that the nights are drawing in?

I usually run through the park and cycle paths but this won’t be possible in the evenings now.

I can stick to the streets but it’s pretty dark round here with poor street lighting and loads of parked cars on the pavement make it tricky.

Other option is to drive off somewhere more well lit, not really sure where.

Lots of people use head torches and carry on running where they want... but obviously you still need to feel comfortable and take the same safety precautions you normally would.

Yes, I’m feeling a bit limited by the darker mornings / evenings. So far I’ve stuck to roads or parks which are next to roads, but it’s not the best.

Considering maybe doing an occasional run at lunch time, especially during any snowy / icy patches we have 🥶

I’m lucky to live on the edge of a town with plenty of residential areas. I have the choice of a 5K and a 7K route which is well lit with street lights, and wide paths.

I’d try and find a 5K route on a well lit up road where you would feel safe and secure. Look out for other runners and see what routes they are using.

Running on pavement/road is not the best for the joints. Could you run in the daylight in the park? Or on a lit track?

Is treadmill an option?

I like to run in the early morning and I have been wondering what I will do in the coming months. I have bought a couple of inexpensive head torches - a lightweight Petzl for £9.95 from Amazon, and a heavier rechargeable one from Lidl for around the same price - though neither have a red lamp on the back.

My planned 5K route for when I hopefully reach that point is mostly illuminated pathways and pavements so I may just wing it.
