2nd park run / how do you feel?

Yay I did it! Was worried my first one must have been a fluke but it seems that is not so! I even knocked 1 min off my previous time- I put this down to being caught up with much faster runners at the start ๐Ÿ˜‚ now to keep going to get slowly closer to the magical 30 min target. I love that I want made to feel like Iโ€™d just completed a marathon by the guy organising it โ€˜well done!!, how do you feel?!โ€™ AND that is the important bit - running makes me feel GOOD and I mean good like no other sport or exercise I have previously tried. โ˜บ๏ธ

Great running and you knocked 1 minute off your time. It does feel a wee bit like finishing a marathon. Well done you ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

Good run for you today, a PB is always a good achievement, nice that you say that running makes you feel better than some of the other sports that you have participated in.

Brilliant stuff! Though I do now have a problem with your username - you should change it to GreyhoundGoesRunning (or some other fast animal) ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿคฃ

No, really a greyhound?! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ

Iโ€™m so not that animal but happy that the sloth can run - albeit very slowly ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿข

Very inspirational! I will do it

I canโ€™t wait to achieve this Iโ€™m only at week 3 but getting there slowly but surely โ˜บ๏ธ

Itโ€™s a great programme and you will definitely get there. Each week is preparing/trading you for the next. I didnโ€™t think I would be doing park runs yet (I graduated Aug) but itโ€™s amazing what is possible. Good luck on your running journey ๐Ÿ€

Thanks I have gave up smoking a month ago and trying to get a better lifestyle ... Iโ€™m determined x just off to the gym and hopefully be able to do a 5k before the year ends x thanks for the encouragement x

I'm still building up to trying Park run. Glad to hear you enjoyed it.

I was a bit nervous at 1st one but no need to be. My only goal was to finish it and so I was very strict with myself and ran (slow jogged) at my normal pace ignoring what everyone else was doing. If you have completed C25K and have been running regularly 30 mins three times a week then itโ€™s easily within your reach (just take it slow). ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Just read your previous posts - 5k in 35 mins is fantastic- Iโ€™d say majority of park runners are around that so you would have a lot of company on the run and be finishing way ahead of the likes of me ๐Ÿ™‚

Yeah that was the first time I managed to run 5k. Do you do your 5min warm up walk before the start?

Slothgoesrunning profile image
SlothgoesrunningGraduateโ€ข in reply toRuncat77

yes beforehand but tbh I arrived late and so a quick jog to the start line was all I managed yesterday ๐Ÿ™ˆ. Some people walk to start, others walk/run the entire course.

Well done on your pb! Parkrun is addictive, the support and โ€˜atmosphereโ€™ fab so Iโ€™m sure youโ€™ll be doing more ๐Ÿค— x

Well done on your PB. The I love parkruns and have joined a couple of them. Sadly so far I am not able to run the full 5k without walking. Just on my wk4d3 of my โ€œCouch to 5kโ€ trg. So looking forward completing a parkrun without walking in between.

Really well done - it is a great feeling!!!

I have just done third - first one went too fast and did some walking - second slow and steady and a minute quicker, yesterday started quicker but find woodland part hard again but minute quicker and able to sprint to finish! But my target now is to get to 35 minutes!

So your time is great ๐Ÿ‘ and something I hope will be a target next year?

I agree one of the best parts are the volunteers encouraging you on around the course - it really helps!

Aw, that's fab, great to have such an enthusiastic organiser ๐Ÿ˜Š๐ŸŽ‰, well done on your PB too ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

I did my third yesterday so similar to you. I said I was going to take it easy and every time I wanted to stop I just slowed down even more. Weirdly I knocked a minute off my pb (still 37.29 but I was expecting more like 45mins ๐Ÿ˜‚). I love the feeling afterward but Iโ€™m still waiting for it to feel enjoyable during the actual run? Any ideas when it will feel easy?

Slothgoesrunning profile image
SlothgoesrunningGraduateโ€ข in reply toBeany123

No idea on the easier question. ๐Ÿง I certainly donโ€™t find it physically easier (well at least not the first 10-15 mins) but it is mentally easier as you know you have done it before.? Youโ€™re time is great -well done!

Beany123 profile image

Iโ€™m one of the slowest in my group but Iโ€™m happy Iโ€™m running! Looks like we naturally speed up over time!

I did my second yesterday as well. Managed to knock off 30 seconds which I'm chuffed about and didn't stop to walk at all.

Well done to you

Brilliant- well done Hillsey!

Beany123 profile image

Well done Hillsey! My group leader says donโ€™t worry about time just try to build endurance so youโ€™re running the whole way, if you feel like stopping, go slower. I have been listening to this advice and it seems to be working well! Donโ€™t feel ready to increase distance yet though!

Well done. It's a great feeling. Now you need to keep going but let yourself gradually get stronger. Don't push too hard.

I completed my third park run at the weekend, slight improvement.I absolutely love running,itโ€™s totally got under my skin.I too want to achieve 30 mins. And against my better judgement I sort of want to do the Blackpool illuminations 10k next year.Im 60 next month and feel the best Iโ€™ve felt in ages.

BTW,if I was an animal,Iโ€™d like to be a sloth.

SlothgoesrunningGraduateโ€ข in reply toNot60yet

Hi Not60yet - I think itโ€™s getting under my skin too!

5K/30 mins is a long way off for me but it is something to aim for. Iโ€™m still a tiny bit intimidated by all the faster runners at park run but not going to let it stop me and running in a group is taking some getting used to (although that only lasts 5 mins and then the crowd has disappeared ๐Ÿ˜‚). Blackpool 10K - very impressive- what an inspiration you are! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Thank you. Ive suddenly got the will to get fit.I started healthy eating 2/5/19 and couch to 5K on 3/7/19.Ive lost two stone and can actually run 5K, not fast, but I donโ€™t walk or stop, so I consider myself a runner.I donโ€™t like the fast runners storming past(I start at the back to avoid them),but my local course is a there and back course so nearly got taken out by some of them last week.Im built for comfort not for speed ๐Ÿคฃ
