W2D3 - blisters & long weekends

Small beginning of a blister on the bottom of one of my toes. Ouch! I had to change my stride slightly this morning, but thankfully it was close to the end of the run.

I also managed to run twice in two days. I know, I know! Yesterday (Friday) was a public holiday so the day off threw off my sense of timing this week.

Going to take it easy for a few days to not over exert!

Happy running :)

Well done, but do take care.

Running impact creates microtears in your muscles which repair and strengthen on your rest days, not while running. No rest, then no repair, no strengthening and so increased injury risk. It is not recommended that new runners have an absolute minimum of six months running on their legs before running consecutive days.

Altering your stride to accommodate a blister is also a likely way to create asymmetric tensions and possible injury.

Thank you for the advice! I have taken this on board and the last thing I want to do is get injured or cause harm to my body. I'll be much more careful in the future!

To avoid blisters make sure you've got your runners done up tight enough. I know that sounds obvious, but if your feet are moving too much within your shoes that could be the cause. It may also be worth investing in blister proof socks. I had dreadful trouble with blisters when I was bridging to 10k and bought some from Asics and now I wouldn't be without them on my longer runs.

And don't forget Compeed or other blister plasters can work wonders to help blisters heel as well as provide some cushioning to stop them being painful.

Happy rest days and hope the blister improves quickly.

Thank you for the advice! I have learnt that there is a specific type of lacing technique that also helps secure your foot in your shoe which I will try.

I'm hoping the blister heals!

Oh blisters are the biggest pain I get them at times due to having fragile skin on my feet, blister plasters make such a difference I have bought compeed ones and the cheap store named ones and found no difference

If you have to change how your foot falls due to soreness there may be aches elsewhere

It's the day after and I don't really have any sores anywhere else. This doesn't mean I did the right thing, I just think I'm lucky!

My blister has become a bit itchy more than anything. I'm not using blister packs just yet but I'll see how I go :)
