Flying, Jet Lag & Running

I’m not afraid of flying, but I don’t normally fly very well - usually don’t seem to be able to ignore the feeling of the pressurised cabin, particularly on my legs. On Thursday set off to New York and because of a 2pm flight was able to run in the morning. It was the most comfortable long-haul flight I can remember.

This morning woke early jet lagged and so pulled on my running things and headed out. Beautiful weather here in Brooklyn and set off for Fort Green Park the nearest green space. I had tried to find a Parkrun but couldn’t find one nearby. Gently jogged to the park & it was full of people - and lots and lots of dogs! So at least I found a Dogrun! (dogs are allowed off their leads before 9am). And what a difference a lovely slow run (50 min 5k), with some early morning sun, did for my energy levels. I shall definitely be trying this again & see if it was a one off or if running before flights, and to help with jet lag after is a thing. Maybe it’s also just about being stronger, fitter and in better shape? But it certainly felt & feels good!

Happy running all x

Fantastic! I’m not up to the full 5k yet- starting week 7 on Monday but my aim is to do a run in New York when I’m there in last few days of October. Can’t wait! We are staying very close to Central Park so that’s my aim!

Well done on planning a run before you fly - excellent idea!
