Use extra energy to do dynamic warm ups & stretches after runs. Cross training in rest days!
Please do 'dynamic' warm up exercises like the recommended 5 minute walk. Don't do classic 'stretch and hold' warmups like you were taught at school (we call these 'static' stretches). Stretching cold muscles and ligaments risks damage. But once your muscles have warmed up (after running) then definitely stretch out those muscles.
