1st pair of runners trainers. : Hi just had my... - Couch to 5K
1st pair of runners trainers.
Brooks
My running shoes are Brooks too, but there are loads of great running shoe brands out there, including Saucony, Nike and Asics. Best advice is to try on a few different brands in the shop where you had your gait analysis and have a little run on their treadmill as we all have very different personal preferences. I'm sure your new shoes will make you enjoy your runs even more 😊
I think that the assistant in the shop where you had your gait analysis would have been the best person to advise you on trainers. We all have our favourite brands, but only you know the distance that you run, the surfaces that you run on, whether you land on heel, midfoot or toes, what support you need and your desire for comfort/cushioning. What width do you need, do you have a preference for more or less toe-drop?
I always think of the analogy with an optician... “Can anyone recommend some glasses?” Well, I’d recommend going and getting your sight checked. “OK I’ve been to an optician. What glasses should I get?”. You kind of need a prescription for some trainers. That’s why we recommend going to an independent running store and getting advice. Note: an independent running store is not a warehouse on a retail park.
I had my gait analysed at DW sports. They had me running on a treadmill and my run was video’d. The shop assistant went through the run and pointed things out that I couldn’t have known. They then showed me trainers and an insole that has helped me with my running.
Let us know how you get on. 🏃♀️
There is a massive choice out there but, realistically, only a few that would suit you. Hence specialist shops where you can get your perfect pair through gait analysis. Brands and quality are often detached from reality. Sometimes you pay for the name and a tag and then get injured wandering why. It's because they didn't fit you well, felt comfy but did not fit. Don't fall into temptation to splash out online, or go with a brand because somebody told you so. Go and see people in the know, tell them what you'd need them for and try them. I've got a pair of Brooks that would be useless for running simply because they are walking trainers but also have several pairs of Asics hard surface runners that are perfectly aligned around my feet and have custom cut insoles. Try as many as you can, your hips/knees/ankles would appreciate it in the long run.
Did they not suggest any shoes to you? All of the big running brands, and a couple of more household names, build excellent running shoes. Which is right for you is down to your gait, feet, injury history, mileage, ambitions of mileage in the next year, terrain, and a couple of other things... that narrows the choice down from hundreds to a handful, your shoe is the most comfortable of those.
Well I purchased at great expense a pair of Crivit running shoes for the enormous price of 7 pounds 99 pence at lidl They are brilliant, light weight. Sprayed some water proofing spray and they were good to go. Have done about 4 5k,s in them with no problem. Prefer them to my more expensive running shoes. Yes they will probably wear out quick but who cares at £7.99
Within each brand there are different models, a bit like cars, with different features and different patterns of support. Makes it a bit of a minefield unless you have a good specialist fitter who can take a professional perspective on your running gait. 🤔
"Pronate slightly " over pronate or under pronate?
I'm amazed they didn't recommend or try some shoes on you. Chances are you need a support shoe which Brooks do have however you need the right type to avoid injury and potential damage.
