Beat the Tide

Ages ago, back in June/early July a couple of us decided that doing a social canicross run to beat the tide would be fun, and a decent number people from across our local groups decided to join us. We then just had to wait for a really low tide so that we had the maximum amount of time to do it in, which ended up being today. The weather was glorious! Still a little bit dark as I left the house (and nearly drove to the wrong location!) which meant we got to enjoy the glorious sunrise for a while, before turning our backs on it and head west.

Soon after we’d started my friend D put her foot in some soft sand and actually face planted 🙁 just as we were reminding another runner that sand can be tricksy and isn’t always as firm as it looks. So I took her Bella (her Sprocker who Merlin adores) and left D to be looked after by another friend who was going to wait for his son (who’s 11) to run a short out and back, then run himself. (Clear as mud, I know).

It was really lovely to be running on the sand and not have my knees start hurting. I think simply managing to have run regularly all this summer has helped tremendously, as I’ve certainly not managed to run on the sand as often as I’d hoped.

I was actually feeling fine to continue running a bit farther than I did, but decided to turn round when the child did. Delivered him to his dad, then did a short slow loop of my own, actively splashing through the shallows.

I totally forgot to take my phone, but luckily not my Garmin, so no pictures apart from the ones taken of me. I always look like a sack of spuds in pictures, and the dogs always look fantastic. So jealous!

D was fine to drive home, though I did follow her right to her door, to be on the safe side, and we don’t think she’s done any damage to her face at all.

I don’t think we’ve got another suitable tide as well as enough daylight to fit another one in. But I must try to remember to do some more beach running over the winter.

Dear Maddee_6333,

I 'Think' I understand this🤷‍♂️? You went for a Run, between the Tides, a friend fell over, you continued with her son. Ultimately, your friend, seemed OK but you made sure she got Safely home. You also forgot your Camera but not your Sat Nav.

Have I Interpreted this correctly? If so I hope that you enjoyed, your run, and am VERY glad that, your FEET/ Legs 'Behaved' themselves.

Congratulations, on finishing, your Run. I'm glad that, in the end, Everything 'Turned Out' OK. Best wishes

Man, if I lived where I used to, near a beach that had one of the fastest tide patterns ever, I would so move heaven and Earth to start a run like yours

There’s a couple of paid for Beat the Tides that get run local(ish). I’ve never done one, but I’m sure ours was just as good 👍
