Beats per minute music?

Has anyone explored listening to music with specific bpm to suit their pace? I'm doing all I can to make sure I finish my next run (see previous post for context if interested!) and I seem to have fallen down a rabbit hole online ... various recommendations! I guess I'll just experiment with Spotify until I land on a bpm which will keep me running steadily.

Yes! I worked out my preferred BPM by listening to different tunes and working out which ones got me motivated and running just that bit faster. I then Googled how many BPM these were and then Googled a list of others in the same range. I’ve now put together my own running list in Spotify which I keep adding to if I hear a new tune.

Sounds like a plan!

Apple Music has a 150 bpm selection but it sounds like the drivel you hear in gyms. It also has a 160 spm “Boot Camp “ selection of US military chants but these are not music as we know it.

If you Google "songs at 150 bpm" it will give you a list to choose from. Happy running!

I like to run at 160 but everyone is different and no-one is "wrong"

Podrunner has music at all cadences, for walking and running. And plans, and interval runs, just about everything really. And it's all free.

Until recently I started every run to Hall and Oates "Manester" - this really helped me start at a proper pace for me. Then basically any tracks that I liked with strong Bass undertones 🙂

For me, any music, I don't run to the beat but Willow used to, he put a faster beat playlist on once by accident and ran like the clappers, we laughed and laughed

This is an interesting question. I know there's research which proves the positive impact of bpm music for running. However, it's OK if you like it, and it sounds as though you do. However, I've found the opposite and upbeat music, where I run to the beat, is too hectic for me and I feel under pressure. I tend to go for very chilled out music when I run as it helps me run in a more relaxed way. I just searched on Spotify for a 250bpm playlist, and when I saw it, I thought it wasn't for me.

Glad it works for you though and I expect you'll find a good playlist.

You're best running at your natural cadence. For me that's about 170-180spm.

I do sometimes listen to music, but the bpm rarely matches my cadence. "Pick a pocket or two" from the musical "Oliver!" does suit me, though. 😆

I downloaded a rock running playlist from Spotify, but I do find it a bit hit and miss so I'm trying to make my own now from songs I know hit the right pace for me, Andrew W K 'Party Hard' seems to be my perfect rhythm so trying to match songs with that one, also like 'No one knows' by Queens of the Stone Age, but equally I like a few slightly slower ones in case I'm feeling a bit ropey!
