If you have been following my posts youl know i come from a land littered with hills and sheep. Today im away with work on the outskirts of Manchester.
Was worried i wouldnt find anywhere to run but luckily i mapped out a path last night. My gosh if i had a spirit level on wheels i dont think the bubble would have moved!
The run got taxing at the end but i think that was down to water intake. Must say though running on the flat makes a massive difference!! Does anyone have any advice on this. When i get back home should i continue my usual course which is up and down or find a flatter run?
Thanks for reading.

Hills will make you a stronger runner and it nice to run a flat route now and again. So yes when you get home maybe trying seeing if there is any flat route you can do once or twice a week. Well done 😊😊
Hills and undulations make you a stronger runner, and if you're running in fields etc will give you stronger ankles.
They will get easier over time. You also need a route you can enjoy, so if a hilly route gives you lovely views and all that nature offers you will get more from that than running say a busy A road.
My flattest route us just that, a run down an A road until the footpath ends. I get far less from it so only use it for time restricted runs, the rest of the time I would rather have the nurture that comes from being up in the hills and fields 👍🏻😁
Flat running after hill work is well documented. I was much, much slower on flat running when I tried it and I found it really, really hard.. I had to practice on flat ground before my Half Marathon!
Hills do strengthen you and still my speed ( ha ha) is faster on the inclines,, You have to work harder, and it becomes the norm....
You must be south or west of Manchester as in the other directions lie big, big hills! I’m from over there originally but now live in a very flat part of Yorkshire.....like the 70s Hovis boy, my childhood was one of walking up & down “brews” as they are known in Lancashire! Don’t know how I’d have done C25K back home?!
All that said, an incline does build in resistance so must be a boost but equally the flat is an opportunity for consistent speed/time.
Whatever and wherever you do it, it’s always worth doing!
Question on the sheep....do you or anybody else say hello to them as you pass by? We’ve a load round here and...err....a friend of mine does when he’s out running! 👍🏃♂️ 🐑
