Well I’m taking the plunge. I’ve put so much weight on recently and now it’s time to get me back into shape.
What advice do you guys and girls have? Is it easy to work round shift work? So because I have a full set of shifts coming up this week I was going to do my first on Wednesday and take it from there.
I’m nervous but excited at the same time. Has anyone struggled to complete the program or hit a wall?
What’s good to wear as well as so much on the market? I was just thinking shorts & T-shirt to begin with.
All help and advice gratefully received

One of the keys is not to try to run too quickly. Find a pace where you are comfortable and just focus on the time targets. Often ‘running me’ isn’t a whole lot quicker than ‘walking me’ but I’m doing it. If you follow the steps in the program and don’t pick up any injuries, you’ll do it!
Shorts & T shirt fine to begin with. Good trainers and running socks as soon as possible to prevent injury preferably after a gait analysis. Lots of fluid. You run on alternate days so should fit in with shifts. The whole workout about 35 mins including warm up & cool down walks. Enjoy!
C25k is an amazing plan and really does work you'll get lots of encouragement and support on here . Just wear what you want. Go slow and make sure you're drinking plenty water 7 days a week not just on run days. You can do this 😊😊
Welcome! I’d say it will fit in perfectly with shifts, no problem. I’m currently on “pause” due to a foot/ankle niggle in week 7, and the thing that’s surprised me is that I’m still super keen to get back to it! It’s a brilliant programme, a really supportive forum, and I hope you enjoy it. Slow and sure is the way, as it says in the link Oldfloss posted to you 👍🏻
You will get lots of advice, but my tips are as follows:
- Don't get hung up on the 3 runs per week/9 weeks thing. A C25K "week" is simply however long it takes to successfully complete each set of three runs.
- Take it slow and easy, you can always go slower.
- Hydration, hydration, hydration; even and especially on your non-running days.
- Always take your rest days. Listen to your body. Taking an extra rest day won't hurt you. Not taking a rest day might.
- There are no failed runs, just runs that didn't quite go to plan, and even the experienced runners have them.
- Enjoy it.
Think that covers most things, but we are always here to dish out encouragement and Sage words of wisdom.
