So I nearly went today but it was already dark at 9pm... suggestions?

What suggestions do people have for running in twilight/dark. If I can only go at nighttime there is a route I can use that is comparatively well lit but I still think some extra visibility may be advantageous. Ideas?

Hello Precentrix. A head torch and high vis vest work for me. Singing as you go!

I was thinking about this tonight myself! I imagine lots of us started off with the lighter nights. I certainly won't be doing the laps of my local cricket club in the dark! Guess it will have to be street running.

I think my singing must scare the wolves....

I run in quiet residential streets in the dark & take care crossing roads. I always run with only one earbud in so I can hear traffic, or when using headphones slip them round my neck before crossing. 😃

Lots of running clothes have reflective strips on the t-shirts and joggers, there are high vis wind breakers that can be tied around your waist even if you get too hot wearing it, head torches, a friend of mine tied those bicycle spoke reflectors to her running belt and found some very cheap lights for her shoelaces.

Have a look at the Atlecko website. They have a brilliant lighting vest that you can spot a mile away. But also - they were offering a free clip on light - which I got last winter - all you do is pay £3.99 postage. It’s brilliant - different modes but what I like best is that it is blue and I think (Hope) most drivers will slow if they see a flashing blue light. Google Atlecko free light and see if you can still get one.

Good luck and keep safe 😊

I’ve just looked at the Atlecko website and they’ve got the free torch plus you can buy a second one for £4.99. I’ve bought one plus the lighting vest as it’s 30% off at the moment. Like you, I was also thinking about where to run now it’s starting to get darker earlier. I’m not a morning runner. I like to run early evening after work, even when I’m not working it’s my favourite time. Plus, I live in the countryside so I’m already thinking of safety! The autumn/winter definitely needs more consideration in terms of when/where to run doesn’t it? Suggestions welcome.

Glad the suggestion was useful to you. Did you read the guy’s story? The one who designed it and why?

Hope you find some safe routes.

I actually prefer running first thing but as I’ve now joined a club most runs are evening ones but at least there is more safety in numbers when road running in the dark.

Enjoy your runs 😊🏃🏽‍♀️
