Week 4 run 2 complete, high HR?

Hi all,

Feeling frisky :) Just got back from wk4 run2 (after cooldown & another short walk I even ran for another 1km, 5 & a bit mins solid whoop whoop!). Although I'm a little concerned about my heart rate is it anything to worry about, spending so long in near max HR?

It is recommended that you stick to the running programme while on c25k and if you slow your pace your HR will stay lower. You should be running this at an easy pace where you can hold a conversation.

Have fun.

There is a huge variation in HRMax across the population. Garmin uses a default formula that shows an average for age but it's way out for lots of people, including you by the look of it. Your max is clearly somewhere above 184.

If you do a few short, fast hill repeats you'll get a rough idea of how high it goes. Then you can amend the settings to something more realistic.

Hi, I can't comment on the heart rate as I am not medically trained, but well done on the run and beyond. How accurate are these trackers?

Maybe listen to your body, if you are tired or out of breath slow down.

I guess it depends on your general health though, if you have had heart issues, definitely take it easy!

Looks like about 3 min at max HR? Seems fine to me. I do a very similar workout ... works for me :)

IMO if you're not pushing yourself towards max HR at some point during your workout, you're not going to make progress.

As above. The comparison of your HR and cadence looks good to me, and you are recovering in the walk pretty well. With no underlying medical conditions I wouldn’t overthink it, people used to do this without knowing their heart rate, but if you are worried, go have a checkup and a chat with a doctor, maybe even have your max HR assessed. SlowLoris’s suggestion will produce a very similar number to the medical tests though, and a lot sooner.

Not what you're looking for?
