I’ve been going to run for years, but have always found an excuse not to do it, people laughing, potential injury, not being any good, having nowhere to run.
I think I’m nearly there. I’ve downloaded the app, joined this forum, and I think I might have found somewhere where I’ll feel comfortable to go running.
First run this week, fingers crossed. No excuses.

You CAN do it...this is also a place where you can feel comfortable talking about running. Bring your problems and your celebrations and we will commiserate,a dvise, encourage and celebrate with you
Do read the FAQ post in the pinned posts...it's full of very useful information
I was just the same😀 Until last year at the age of 56 I had never run. When I started I could only run for about 30 seconds. Couch to 5k is a fantastic programme. I now run the 5k three times a week and feel so much better. My advice would be take your time and just start slowly. Don’t rush to the next run but keep doing the same one until you feel comfortable with it. Then do the next one. You will be surprised how quickly you will make progress. Good luck.
Welcome along ! I’m short, fat, balding, plain, with glasses, a stammer, recurring depression and I’m autistic. And I did this, so you definitely can ! We’re all right here cheering you on x
You're going to surprise yourself. You're going to do it whilst all the time thinking that you can't. You're going to stick with the programme and gradually learn to trust it and when you finish each week you're going to feel great. Come back and tell us about it.
The first run is the hardest because you have to psyche yourself up to get out there. But it's so worth it. Go for it, take it slowly, and hold your head up with pride.
Never thought I would actually get out and do this. I was late home from work too, so had a ready made excuse but got myself out there regardless. That first run I was thinking “this is tougher than I expected - I’ve no chance” but somehow it gets easier.
Thank you for everyone’s support - I laid awake at midnight last reading through the FAQ post - the more I’ve put in to it the more likely I felt I was to actually take the plunge.
Now my next dilemma, having read the FAQ is when to do my next run. I had thought Wednesday but I play tennis on a Thursday (this is the last match of the season so won’t be a problem for long) and don’t know if that would then mean I wouldn’t be following the plan as not having a rest day on Thursday. But if I can’t go that then next run is Saturday which feels a long way away and also means my next run after that isn’t within the first week.
I’m tempted to run Wednesday, play tennis Thursday and run again Saturday or Sunday. Given it’s only a one off with it being the last tennis match I’m hoping it won’t cause too much harm.
I’m also wary of trying to strike whilst the irons hot - it’s taken me just shy of 30 years to get out and go for a run!
