Well folks, it feels like half a lifetime since I was in touch... in reality, it was 4 weeks ago that I sprained my foot. A lot has happened to me personally in that time that I won't bore you with but suffice it to say I feel a little strange at the moment.
Anyway, Saturday morning I woke up having not one of my best days... but I'd volunteered for parkrun and I wasn't letting down my running friends. Anyhow, by the time we'd been given our duties and I'd spoken to the people I know, I was beginning to feel more myself.
I'd been allocated the Marshall position farthest from the start so began to make my way. Then I thought "I wonder if I could just do a light jog without hurting my foot" so I did. And, boy, it felt utterly liberating. I now simply cannot conceive of a life without running and being on the IC has been torture! Anyhow, feeling buoyed, I enjoyed seeing everyone run past. And when the tailwalker came past, I ran back to the start again.
No pain at the time and no ill-effects this morning. So I had a little jog to the gym (5 minutes) and my PT had planned a legs session anyway. Again, no pain or discomfort.
So, folks, I'm going to write one of my famous plans this afternoon and get back to running 3 times a week next week, subject to physio approval tomorrow. Will be using some of the C25k podcasts to control my urge to run and run.
But in summary - I'm back!
Ps - the official weigh-in this week shows me as exactly 4 stone down in exactly 7 months. Wow!

May I also add that we saw his car in the car park but as we approached the volunteer muster point I said that I couldn't see him - Geoff said "well who is that with his back to us?"
I really didn't recognise the new slim @pianism at first.
This is fantastic news my friend! It is good to know that the foot is on the mend... and that you got a run in... I know exactly what you mean... the IC is a lonely place,,, and the first run out.. wow! Maybe post on the new Quest on here on Monday? It could keep you on track I am finishing Magic 10, yet again...even though I ran 10 last week..it keeps us on line!
Congratulations! Re the weight loss: did you change many of your eating habits and diet or was it just down to the runs? I have started the training mid May (had to do week 3 twice and had 1 week break during the heat) and I can see that I have lost some weight and my appetite is different - less craving junk. Curious to hear about your experience. Thank you!
Yes, I made quite major changes. Prior to January, I was a junk food junkie - processed carbs at every meal, which I've found really drive my hunger and give me cravings for more processed carbs.
So I started actively choosing healthy meals and buying them at the weekend. I mostly stick to protein and veg (pasta, bread and potatoes are all reserved for special meals - like when I want a chippy tea, which I sometimes do and don't feel guilty about!). Soon I found that I wasn't craving food at all and now it's just become my normal routine.
I also started doing a LOT of exercise - I fast walk 4 miles a day when I'm in the office and anywhere I'm going that's less than a couple of miles I walk if I have time. I run 3 times a week (when I'm not injured) and I've also started going to the gym at least twice a week.
I think it's the combination of diet and exercise that's done it. Even now, the weight is just falling off!
All the very best in finding something that works for you - the more you can incorporate into your current life the better. Can you get off the train 1 stop earlier? What meals do you already love that are healthy or that you could tweak? Good luck!
So good to have you back and sounds promising run wise. Dont do too much too soon... recommend the comeback run on nrc. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼 you get the all clear
Oh brilliant Pianism! I wondered how you were getting on and here it is! What a relief for you 😅 And 4 stone in 7 months is amazing, you’ll be half the man we met at Marple when we next see you - you’ll have to wear a badge so that we can recognise you 😂 x
That's great news, I'm sure you'll be sensible and listen to any advice from the physio but sounds like you're back in the game! And four stones weight loss? Amazing!
Thank you everyone - I've missed you! Yes, the physio signed me off to start running again... just 3 10 minute runs in the first week (done) and then 15 minute runs the week after (1 done), then 20 minute runs. Then I'm free to build up to my usual level.
Southport 10k here we come! (Will probably need to walk some of it through).
