Hi, I’ve nearly completed on week 2 of C25K. Wondering if anyone else is running with a COPD/Asthma overlap? The heat/ humidity isn’t helping at the moment. Does anyone have any tips for breathing please? Thanks in advance.
COPD Overlap : Hi, I’ve nearly completed on week... - Couch to 5K
COPD Overlap
I have COPD/asthma overlap and I have completed the programme twice. I had to start again after recovering from broken leg. I find the first 5 minutes to be most difficult for breathing. I make sure I start extremely slowly until my breathing settles into a comfortable pattern before building pace. I also take 2 puffs of Ventalin 10 mins before running. Good luck!
Thanks for your reply Michelle, I have slowed things down and now take 2 puffs of my spiriva now before I run. I did run 1, week 3 yesterday afternoon and it wasn’t too bad- I think it actually helped that it was pouring down with rain. Thanks for the advice x
Hi there. Congratulations on starting the programme! It’s such a positive step for your health. I definitely think take it slowly and use your preventer in advance. Maybe have a longer warm up walk too, to really prepare your body for the run? Please also carry your preventer inhaler with you too: you can pick up running belts from shops such as Sports Direct quite easily which will keep your hands free, especially if you are carrying a phone too. Enjoy!
Thanks Molly1973, I am now doing a longer warm up and yes I have a belt with my inhaler and phone in so it’s all good 🙂
