W6R1 - why??

Odd that having got you to the Big 20 in W5R1 you drop back to a mix of walks and runs in W6R1. I’m sure there must be some sports psychological or physical reason for it but don’t know what it is...anyone any ideas??

Keep hydrated everyone! 🏃‍♂️ 💦

Many ask same question but it’s to do with increasing overall running time. It feels odd but once you’ve got these last intervals out of the way it’s much easier- the intervals are hard on your body- revving up and down which is good training so yes there’s science behind it but other more knowledgable folk can I’m sure explain it better! Happy running!!

Mmm interesting. I always wonder that when I read posts about that week. And why do lots of people find it hard?

Running is about so much more than one step in front of the other. The idea of different runs is that they are teaching us many things..the discipline in all aspects our running. Changes in pace..tempo...control of our running..building up strength and the stamina needed too, when we finish C25K and move on to other runs..

Thanks, that makes sense

Your overall workout time is only 20 minutes in Week 5 Run 3. In Week 6, the overall workout time increases to 24 minutes (not including warm up and cool down walks). The brisk walking intervals are part of the overall workout, not just a chance for a nice rest, which is how I used to see them! 😂

I think the basis of interval training in general is letting the body’s systems recover but not get back to “rest”, and then pushing on again. That way you increase stamina without injury. I always feel it’s a way of saying to my body: ok that was good, but we’re serious here. 😄
