Been thinking about this alot lately. Yes I can keep my runs private but some will say what's the point of doing that and although I have never had any negative comments the same can't be said for posting on Facebook although it could be my fault not making myself clear but I don't think I should have to start my posts with a disclaimer saying I am not looking for advice just commenting surely. Apologies for the rant. I am starting to understand why some people don't use Facebook anymore or have never had an account. I am going to use Runtastic for a while for all my runs. Don't think anyone will notice unless I say and it may help with my confidence and mental health.

Leaving Strava
I left facebook because of negativity and nastiness and like you say, my mental health, was suffering. I just dont need it. Shame though as living in France I wanted to keep in touch with my uk friends. Nowadays I choose only nice people to be around....I can run away from the rest, literally! You do what makes you happy....you know you have done your run.
That is why our forums here are so excellent... support, sound advice and encouragement. I do find Strava the same... and so, so useful.
You do what's right for you and do not worry what anyone else thinks. I don't have Facebook and I don't want it. Also I keep my runs on Strava private only for me to see as I'm running for me . This forum, c25k is the only place I post about my runs as there is always great advice if needed and no one is judgemental and everyone on here knows exactly what you talking about . Good luck on whatever you want to achieve 😊😊😊
Hi Pippa, you can set Strava to make your runs, posts etc visible to just you, your friends or everybody. Just use the ‘settings’ page which you can access by clicking on the circle that looks like a gear. I have mine set up so everything is just visible to friends. These are generally runners I’ve met through C25K or Health Unlocked and I know I can trust them.
It also allows me to look at any friend requests I get through before deciding whether to allow them. I generally look at who they are friends with already. If I know any of their friends then I’ve usually accepted them.
I hope that’s some help.
Good luck!🙂👍
I don't do facebook and I actively discourage my children from it too, but my concerns are more privacy related. Facebook have had many legal issues over their treatment of personal datz
I deleted my Facebook at the beginning of the year as I was fed up with the way it was going and the privacy issues. Haven’t missed it once. I do little video updates for my friends on Instagram, these are real friends who I interact with regularly. Nothing but support from them and it has allowed me to track my progress. This forum is just amazing . Lovely people who give you support and advice if you ask for it, not one snarky comment, sure admin would jump on it if there were. They could certainly put Mark Zuckerburg to shame. I use Strava now to measure my run stats as I get nearer graduation. I find it helpful but not essential. And only have one follower who is a friend at work who has been an inspiration to me.
Sorry for the long post, I’m passionate about this program, the forum and all that it’s done for me over such a relatively short period of time.
That is all ....🤪
Fair enough. I am a member of a few running groups on fb and on the whole most are very supportive and encouraging and I have made new friends, one of whom I met for the first time when I did the Swansea Half marathon. The running group I go to is on fb and is a closed group as are the others. I have found the forums on here very supportive too.
