Tired...glad it’s bedtime question re snacks,

Hello! I managed week 5 run 3 today which felt ok at the time. However, I now feel exhausted for the first time really after the training. I’m eating properly but wondering if it would help to have more of a snack after the “run” now they are getting a bit longer? I’m not aiming for weight loss with this C25K programme, but neither am I aiming to put it on! Any advice please?

If you’re happy with your weight then yes... some post run snack is good. Are you tracking your runs with an app that gives you a calorie burn? If so eat about half of that in heathy proteins and maybe even fats... these are better than carbs as they take longer to digest than carbs and so can stop the rungry without you over eating.

Why half? I use a Garmin watch, and it tells me how many calories I burned in my run... but on another screen it shows me active and passive calories... the run report shows me the total burn for the workout... I’d have burned some of them if I’d sat on the couch. So I only earned the extra ones. Hope this makes sense.

We missed that one out of the glossary! My favourite is smugfast though... smugfast tastes soooo good!

It’s a great word! I certainly am well known for getting “ hangry”

Congrats on W5R3: a proper milestone.

You’re thirsty, not hungry. W5r3 probably burned 300 calories so you don’t need a snack. A handful of grapes, or a satsuma or half a banana would be OK. But don’t get into the habit of snacking after C25K. Try and condition your brain to interpret “hunger” as meaning “drink water”. Most of us are permanently dehydrated and mistakenly turn to high fat & high sugar snacking foods. With the obvious results.

Thank you. TBH, I’m pretty sure I’m not dehydrated as I drink so much and my urine is always a Sauvignon Blanc lookalike! I do however need about 2 pints water after exercise as I lose a lot through sweating. Ooh,,,just had an idea! MILK could be the way to go!

I bet it would. Or milk mixed with vanilla ice cream and a bit of vanilla extract? YUM!
