Fast Intervals

It was really hard to motivate myself to get out of bed this morning. A gremlin had appeared overnight and was telling me that I was going to get enough exercise by walking the dogs later, which while true? IS NOT THE POINT. I’m trying to get faster dammit 🤨

Finally threw myself out of bed, drank half a large glass of water (I’d drunk a whole glass during the night, when I’d woken up having hot flushes/to take tablets), threw on the running stuff that was ready waiting for me, did bathroom stuff, and left. Thoroughly dogless.

I decided - literally as I ran along the pavement toward one of my regular routes - that I’d run to a local park instead (we all know how much I hate running laps right?) reasoning that even though that meant I’d be running a substantial amount of pavement, and then laps it was at least a change of scenery. Also? Flatter than usual, ergo faster.

I had the park to myself, it’s not one of those parks where people go to run/work out, apart from a very handsome fox, and later a couple of dog walkers. One of whom I startled rather badly when I appeared through the trees, talking to myself - it was a very heartfelt ‘oh thank God’ at the end of the second interval - just as he was letting his dog off.

Managed all the intervals to pace - though it was a struggle - and jogged home slower than I would have liked. But I was still moving faster than a walk, so I will count that as a win.

Tomorrow is a very definite day off.

Sometimes a few days off can help a lot - take care of yourself. I have been overdoing things, squeezing runs into

hectic days and getting worn out but was stopped in my tracks by tonsillitis! Now enjoying a complete rest, from everything!

Oh no! I had my tonsils out as a child , but I can remember how miserable it was (I also have 2 adult children who still get totally knocked out by it now and again).

Look after yourself.

I think I’m getting worried by how far behind I am on my getting faster plan. I think should have counted more of my Canicross plods as Long Runs.

Normally it wouldn’t matter, but I’ve booked the Beachy Head 10k for the end of October, so will need to start upping my distances before then.

Oh, I am sure 10k will be no problem for you, October is a bit of a way off yet. Although Beachy Head is very steep isn't it!!

I am thinking of putting my name down for a mixed terrain 10k in October - to celebrate my birthday!

I did it a couple of years ago and the 10k route wasn’t nearly as steep as the Half Marathon Route I did the year after.

That sounds like a great idea. Are you going to run with Mr Squiggs??
