No more walking intervals?!

Hi everyone,

I'm a forum NEWBIE so thought I'd introduce myself first - Rachel, 30-something, running in Warwick, nice to meet y'all! I've been reading on here for a while soaking up the tips and support but thought I'd finally post!

So my first attempt at C25k was about 3 yrs ago...I was enjoying it until I got to the longer runs and then I somehow ended up with a hip injury and struggled to keep it up. Having always wanted to get back into it and with "operation wedding dress" well and truly underway, I'm back!!

I'm planning to do Wk6 run3 later today- I can't believe how far I've come since struggling through the 90 second runs of week 2! I have to say I'm feeling slightly apprehensive about my 25 minute run today having found week 6 a challenge so far. I thought after the 20 minuter at the end of week5 that I could do anything but somehow this week has tried me! Just looked ahead at the plan and thought "what, no more walking intervals?!" I'm sure I'm not alone in that feeling!

Also looks like it might be my first run in the rain, will I slip? will it be horrid?....wish me luck! x

At least it will be cooler in the rain - I quite enjoy it unless it's really lashing down.

Week 6 is often a tricky one but a lot of people actually find things improve once they get into the longer runs. It really is all about the consolidation now and the increases in time are quite small, so just go for it!

Welcome to the forum. As you have seen it's a fab place for advice and support. Good luck with your run! Having got this far I'm sure that you won't need it, your preparation will enable you to rise to the challenge. Happy running :-)

All the best for your run. You did your 20 minute okay I take it - so you're ready for this 25 minutes. Start off steady, you can do it! :-D please let us know how you go.

So glad you returned.

Just one more run and you have week six in the bag, you can do it 😄😄😄

Slow and steady will get you to the end of this week.

I love the rain, it keeps you cool, although you get rather soggy - at least you can't tell whether it's sweat or wet! 🌧☔️🌧 ☔️🙋🏼

Well done - I have only run one in the rain and I loved it - kept me cool 😀

I Love running in the rain and I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine. Keep it slow and keep it steady, the programme has your body ready. Hey, that rhymes! Let us know how it goes. :) (that wedding dress should be all the incentive you need) ;)

Sounds like you are doing really well! Keep it up. I love running in the rain (also means less people walking their dogs) :) but I like the feeling of it. Hope it went well :) :)

Man, I hate when it wet on the ground - I get all paranoid about slipping and doing myself an injury. On the other hand - it forces me to 'go slower...then slower still' when the going gets tough :) Any day that I am in any way apprehensive about the outcome of a run I go out the door wiht thefarme of mind that 'Today will probably be a practice day - and I'm just going to run and enjoy it'

They are not only the funnest days I've had running but soe of the most surprisingly 'successful' ones :) There are no 'fail' days once I get out that front door ;)

I did it!! So at about 21 minutes I did feel a bit nausious I admit it but then I somehow found a second wind to get me through it and now apparently I'm "officially a runner!" What a feeling! 😆 That said, I did have horrendous pins and needles in my feet and ankles about a minute into my warm down walk. Anyone else get that?

You guys were right though so thanks for your words of wisdom. Steady steady got me through it...shame my calves still feel like they're about to explode 😉 Xx

Go you! Now week 7 should be a breeze (well okay maybe not exactly a breeze) but you've already nailed 25 minutes, so there should be no 'mind gremlins' whispering that 25 minutes is too long :) Well on the way to graduation now!
