How far ahead should I plan? 10k end of Sep too soon?

W5R2 tomorrow, my son yesterday was telling me about a half marathon and 10k in Glasgow end if September, but I feel I should finish the programme before I think too far ahead.

Could be a bit soon to actually run the 10k as it’s recommended to spend some time on consolidation at the end of the plan... that would leave you maybe a month to double your distance... which wouldn’t be enough time to do it safely. If you skipped consolidation maybe, but you’d find the 5k to 10k journey a lot harder that way.

Could you settle for a bit of walking in that 10k? I doubt very much that you’d be alone in doing that, but it takes some discipline to not try to run it all.

Think I’ll see how I am as and when I finish. I did think it was a bit soon.

Good luck to you on your run 5 of week 3 tomorrow, I live 13 miles away from Glasgow, those two runs you mentioned are on the 29 September, as UNM says you could try the 10K run but walk part if it to avoid injury, believe it or not there have been a few runners who run the 10K which starts at around 10am in George Square Glasgow, ends in Glasgow Green THEN go up to George Square and run the HALF MARATHON which begins at 11.30am, I think 2 or 3 do that every year, for you, perhaps run/walk the 10 if you really want to take part in The Great Scottish Run.

In line with other advice, I’d say don’t rush it. 3 weeks of consolidation and then start the 8 week magic plan and see how you are getting on before you sign up. It’s amazing how many races there are once you’ve started this magical journey.

Thinking I’ve got just over 4 weeks left so it would be a bit soon especially as sponsor money needs to be raised. I’ll just set myself one goal at a time.

Good idea. There are some Santa runs in December which are great fun. I saw a pic of one in Edinburgh or Glasgow with hundreds of runners in outfits. 🤶🎅🏻
