I started week 2 on Sunday and wanted a goal, so I am thinking about signing up for a 5k on August 19th. I’ve always wanted to run in a race, but will I be ready? Thoughts and encouragement appreciate.

Hi
By the 19/8 you will be on wk 8 or 9, so you will be running a minimum of 25mins, 28mins or 30mins based on the plan.
Not many people achieve 5k by the end of wk9 but will be running for 30mins.
You will definitely be able to achieve 5k by your target date either by running non stop or a mixture of walking/running. It might take you longer than 30mins but if you follow the plan it will build your endurance and strength so you will be able to cover the distance, don’t worry about the time just set your goal as finishing.
I wish you good luck on your journey and hope that you catch the running bug and this will be one of many 5k’s you achieve.

At some early point on the C25K, I entered for an upcoming local 5k race and it really helped to keep me motivated. I told myself that I would be happy to walk some of it if I needed to. So long as you are sensible about it, I think it's a great idea.
