I’ve made it to week 8, working through sore knees after every run and doing stretches and strengthening exercises as advised by you lovely people thank you.
I really can’t believe I have run for 25 minutes! It’s so exciting 😁 but I feel I have now reached the point at where my knees can do no more. I can’t see those extra three minutes of running required for week 9. My knees are noisy when I move them - a kind of grinding noise.
I might try two days recovery between runs - might that help? Or shall I wear knee support bandages? I am using ibuprofen gel. What about knee braces? Any ideas?
I don’t want to stop as I’ve been so amazed at what I have managed to achieve until now but I seem to feel constantly stiff in my knees and I’m not sure I want to keep pushing.....

You could try using some knee supports. I can't run without them! They come in different levels of support and going to somewhere like decathlon (where I got mine) you can find a few options to look at. A running shop might be able to give you some advice and supports which are designed specifically for running and are a little more breathable than the standard ones you'll find elsewhere. Hope that helps and good luck!
Thanks I’ll try that. I wasn’t sure whether wearing supports was a good idea or not but I’ll go to my local running shop and talk. Didn’t think of that. (Why not I ask myself ??)
It depends on the type of pain/damage whether supports are a good idea. I'd advise them in most cases as they get you up and about, potentially losing weight as well, which will reduce everyday strain and strengthen muscles around the area. It's not a natural leap in thought though and it may change your running style a little to start with as they will affect the movement of your knees. Good luck!
Hi I’m on wk8r3 and am also suffering with knee pains.
I guess it all depends on what type of knee pain you’ve got, I don’t like the description of a grinding noise, that sounds almost like bone on bone which I would assume means your only making it worse running. But I’m no physio, maybe it’s time to seek medical attention.
My knee pain is a lot different, I have pain and soreness down the inside of each knee. Which strangely doesn’t hurt when I’m running, but I do wear a lightweight knee support on each when I’m running. It’s only when I’ve finished that they seem to stiffen up and hurt when I walk. I’ve been told it’s nothing serious and I can continue running and it should improve the stronger my legs get and that pre and post run stretches will help as well.
I hope you get it sorted , as you’ve come along way and it would be a shame if you had to pull out of the plan with only 6 runs before graduation.
Hi. Thanks for the support. It seems there are unfortunately many varieties of knee pain!
I might seek medical advice - I think if I knew I wasn’t doing any damage I might find it comforting and just go with it with the help of bandages and ibuprofen ...... on the journey to stronger knees.
Someone told me today to ice my knees for 15 mins after a run as that can help - might help you too??
I agree with Coel. You should try using some knee supports or even braces to help give you added support while running. I've had knee problems for a while now, and something that has seriously helped me is yoga: openfit.com/8-yoga-moves-to...
I had an MCL tear a few years ago and yoga helped get my knee back to full strength. It's still sore after a long run/hard workout, but it's nowhere near as bad as it used to be. I see that you have been stretching your knees which is great, but you should start trying to strengthen your knees as well.
Thanks AmyKart. It’s good to hear success stories !!. I’ve never tried any yoga so will give this a go. I have had a week long rest and seen an improvement in pain so will try to start running again. Determined to graduate even if only doing 3.5k In 30 mins.
