Life after graduation. What Sybil did next!!

I graduated last July and like many mourned the loss of Sarah, my constant companion over the 9+ weeks. Now what? 🤷‍♀️ Well since then I’ve had a variety of runs. Some 5k, some less and one even 7k (don’t know how that happened). 😱 Some Parkruns and one ‘race’ that terrified me (it was fine!) Some were walk/runs (jeffing is the term used) and some just fitted the time I could manage. Sometimes I felt guilty because I wasn’t sure it was a ‘proper’ run! I joined the Bridge to 10k and I read about the increasing efforts of my VRBs with envy but I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s not for me. I’m happy to go out for my 5k OTA or my 30 min OTA. OTA is ‘or there abouts’ so every run is a success and every run is a proper run. Does that mean I’ll not do 10k? Not necessarily. 😆 I’ve printed off Jo-Jo’s magic plan and one day I MIGHT start. Just maybe not today.

Bottom line - every run counts and if you’re still out there running after graduation that’s what matters. Not time, not distance - but I still check both!! 🤣🤣🤣 Have fun and well done to us all.

Nice post. Yes your right. You are running for you and no one else. Once it’s enjoyable you’ll keep at it. Well done.

Thank you. Don’t want new graduates to feel pressured to do more. It’s an individual journey. I’m enjoying mine!

i am in the same boat,cant really want to join the b210 but running 3 times a week and pr when possible.

i have stretched it to 5 1/2 and a 6 once BUT i can say i love my run days.

Snap! I like the THOUGHT of running longer it’s more the time I’m struggling with. Half an hour fits in to a busy life. Don’t want to push myself and possibly ruin the fun.

Well done on your runniversary Sybil. You are so right that running is something you should do at your own pace and distance and it needs to fit in with your life . There’s no doubt with the faffing and stretching, rest day exercises, and posting on here, it can take over your life,

I’m glad you are still enjoying it and continuing to get out there.

Thank you. You CAN feel you’re being left behind if you’re not getting in longer runs after a while but just wanted to say 5k is enough (and fabulous) for some! I still love to read about everyone else though 😆

Lovely post Sybil👍 it’s great that the gift of running is fluid; it shapes itself to your own wishes and goals. I am happy for you that you are still running almost a year after graduation 🏃🏾‍♀️🎉😊

Totally agree Sybil, it's what is best for us. I still try to run at least 3x a week but they're very fluid on time I run. Furthest I've done on 1 run is 6.5k in 35 mins, couldn't believe it. I'm usually very busy and it's not always possible for me to get out to run for 30mins so I've found even a 20min treadmill run in the gym where my boys are helps.

That’s a great time! It’s not always easy when life gets in the way is it but the important thing is to do what you can, when you can.
