And first run without a jacket! Starting to feel like a real runner now. Also, dare I say it...Motivation hurdle getting smaller.

Nice to see your post JaoJao! How’s consolidation running? Mine’s been derailed by a massive cold but I’m excited to get back out there on Monday and aim to start Parkrun in a couple of weeks .... hopefully! 😁

I really enjoy your positive posts Buddy34. They’re always so encouraging. How’s your own running going? Favourite run location at the minute 😁?

I’ve recently had a running pause as got massive cold ...restarting my consolidation running Monday though and so excited to get back out there!

Oh thanks, running going really well did my first 5k in just under 30 minutes yesterday added a different bit on to my usual route yesterday. Going to Oban in 2 weeks time so will take my running gear with me and enjoy my very first seafront run can't wait. Hope your cold gets better and you get back out on Monday as planned 😊😊

Definite sense of space down on the beach, with the tide far out. No danger of running out of road!

I’ve never run on a beach. Must give it a try sometime.

Thanks to Islesrunner for the idea. She posted a pic a few days back. We both live on Hebridean islands but I always thought the sand would be too soft. Actually it was great! Quite springy in fact.

Oooh that's a long way away, lol. I always wanted to visit though, I like islands (I know that sounds weird but they are always different to their related mainland).

MarybellM profile image
MarybellM in reply to backintime

If you visit our islands I’ll take you to the beach and we can have a run together!

For sure. I may surprise you one day !

Wow!! That would be SO fab!!! You’ll have a keen C25K “family” there soon at this rate! Can I join please ? 😁👏

Yes!!! Love the idea of a great big group of us running together on the sand. In fact, that’s sometimes how I motivate myself to run - by visualising all the other runners from the forum getting on with their running. I then feel supported and not alone.

Let me know if you’re planning a trip!

I’d actually love to do that! Will have a think and let you know. Really appreciate your lovely reply. Happy running 😁

Agreed! Islands have a special magic quality somehow, always quite special. The only one I’ve been to in the Hebrides is Islay, very beautiful and atmospheric. Recommended.

I will take note. I've never been to the islands, I've been to Scotland twice though

Definitely worth a visit. Perthshire also a lovely region. I hope to get to Outer Hebrides one day but not got there yet. Will bring running kit when I do tho 😁👍 enjoy your next run

South Uist in the Western Isles of Scotland aka the Outer Hebrides. Visitors always made welcome. Weather unpredictable!

Is that one of the ones you can see the northern lights from ? I've been told that you can see them feom some of the Scottish islands (which is another reason I wanted to go)

MarybellM profile image
MarybellM in reply to backintime

Yes - we have seen the Northern Lights! Amazing! Also good here for stargazing as not much light pollution.

...and yet, I’ve not taken advantage of it till I discovered C25K. I’m so glad I did! And so grateful to all of you on this forum who supported me through the wobbly times. Can’t believe my next run is W8R3!

Beautiful!! How did you find running on sand? I’m going to North Wales at the end of July and am going to give it a try. Ordered trail shoes especially!!

MarybellM profile image
MarybellM in reply to molly1973

I found it unexpectedly easy to run on the sand today. The tide was far out so I was able to access hard-packed sand as opposed to the softer stuff close to the shoreline. I zig-zagged a bit to avoid streams and softer parts but on the whole it had a pleasant bounce to it! Plus the sense of space and the vastness of the sparkling sea gave me a lift as I ran. Hope it works for you!

molly1973Graduate in reply to MarybellM

Thank you! I’m looking forward to it (although I keep being told - by non-runners) how hard it’s going to be. I can’t wait to give it a go! I will keep an eye on the tide times: good pointer from you 👍

It is okay and can be such fun..but be aware even dry? hard sand does put a strain on your calf muscles..( Lots of stretching and rolling afterwards). It was the one of the places I was told not to run by my sports physio'after an injury. Soft sand.. well.. it is different and I did have a wonderfully interesting park run at Pwhelli... moving my feet but not getting anywhere!!!

It is worth a giggle..

It’s still in my plan to run Pwhelli in the summer! Hoping the tide is out and I can get on the firmer sand 👍

Me too!!!

MarybellM profile image
MarybellM in reply to molly1973

I felt mentally very uplifted as I ran on the sand - I think caused by the sense of space and freedom - No particular ‘track’ and lovely clean air. Hope you manage it!

MarybellM profile image
MarybellM in reply to Oldfloss

That’s interesting. I had no pain afterwards, so maybe we just have extra bouncy sand here! In fact I found it the easiest of the longer runs I’ve done so far.

That's why its sneaky..🙃

Perfect place to run. Did you jump in the sea afterwards to cool down? 🥶
