I seem to be having a bit of a Goldilocks summer - running too hot (got the skort and two-in-one shorts sorted now, thanks), too cold... and too wet (who’d have THUNK it’s June already?!) Any advice on a decent waterproof running jacket would be much appreciated (breathable too please - see ‘running too hot...’!!). Many thanks in advance!

I always go for windproof rather than waterproof. I find the good waterproof ones too expensive and the cheap waterproof ones I sweat inside them and they are not pleasant. I had had three, two from Decathlon and one from sports direct over the last six years and they are still going strong.

I managed to find a waterproof for £30 in decathlon in the clearance and it has zips under arms for breathing so it seems to be ok and not too hot when I’ve used it but within doubt go for a windproof as rfc says!

Oh, lucky you - I do like a bargain! And yes re wind proof - I’ve just ordered the one RFC suggested 😊

Great! Thank you very much ... I thought I recalled a recommendation for a good Decathlon jacket in the forum, but couldn’t find it... anyway, it was exactly this one!! Now ordered. (I’ve just googled breathable waterproofs... nearly £200... 😱!!)

Do you have a McArthur Glen, or similar, retail park near you? (I’ve found some good deals on many things (even when I’ve just been in browse mode and then get tempted so have to hold myself back lol!)). Another store you could try if you have one near is TkMaxx - they also have some good deals x Both are places you have to keep looking in at times (especially TkMaxx) as they tend to have quick turn arounds but imo can be well worth the effort x

Keep an eye out on eBay if you can bide your time. I get some real quality bargains on there. I got a Gore running jacket for under £20 in the autumn and it is brilliant as it is shower & wind proof and packs down really small.

Didn’t think of looking there for a jacket - I’ve just found a second-hand one in my size for £19.99 buy it now!! Thank you! Shoes apart, I’ve bought a lot of my running stuff from eBay. I like that I can have quality gear at an affordable price - and it feels quite a ‘green’ way to get new/recycled kit too! X

Brilliant! Yes, that’s how I feel too. February is a good time because the resolution runners start to drop off and sell their stuff. 👍x

I got a fab jacket on sale from sport shoes.com. They often have 50% sales. Lightweight and so very comfortable.

Good idea! Thanks! I’d forgotten about it - it’s a great website isn’t it? I bought some fab Brooks running leggings from there for about £15 in their sale! X x

I tried loads - the only ones worth bothering with are OMM unfortunately £££ Mind I only wear mine if it’s literally freezing. I’d rather get wet.

Yes! I usually enjoy running in the rain (it keeps me cool!), but yesterday I really wanted to run and it was literally coming down in sheets!!
