Hi All - after the 5k I’ve kept it up 3 times a week ! I’m going to keep training so I can get time down as at minute am on 40 mins for a 5k . I’m enjoying this tremendously and am now losing lbs and inches. I’ve impressed friends and family but most of all I’ve impressed myself!!! This forum is amazing and you are all amazing !!! Couple days off as don and gf home for weekend!!! Sunday night I’ll be running off the food and fizz!!!

Lovely to hear someone enjoying their post-grad runs... AND the fact you are losing lbs and inches... (I can't believe it but I've actually put ON weight... I'm going to have to have a serious look at my diet).

So keep on going and keep trimming a minute off that 5K each week - all those lost lbs are helping to speed you up ! Keep on running - you are killing it! WELL DONE.

Thank you primaballerina ! I’m - couple of stone overweight so I’ve got fat to burn! My friend who started c25k with me is slim and she hasn’t lost weight! So perhaps you have no fat to burn?!! Anyway keep up the good work!

If your current objective is to improve your 5k time (rather than to increase distance for example) then you may wish to consider replacing one of your 5k runs with speed intervals. Just one a week though: getting miles in your legs at a slow pace is still the mainstay. Also don’t go for a PB every time you do a 5k run: do most at an easy pace and maybe go for a time once a fortnight or so.

An easy interval session to get started is 10 minutes slow run, then (30 seconds fast run followed by two minute walk) repeated six times, finishing with another 10 minute slow run. Apart from gradually helping with speed, a different type of run once a week also stops you getting bored.
