Finally ran my first 5k........ I'd hoped to do it firstly before christmas and then by next Friday if I pushed myself. I really didn't think it would happen when I went out this morning. Now all I have to do is get 11 mins and 43s off the time and I'll be able to do it in 30 minutes!!!
Happy running peeps.

For someone who was on the couch not ALL that long ago it sure is a good time I'm still struggling to do sub-40 minute 5Ks, am coming in consistently at 38 and 39 minutes but it is tough. I will keep on keeping on though
I did.... one of those useless facts you pick up from a 1970's grammar school education! I'm thinking or re-reading Pilgrim's Progress. (that's a total non-sequiter but, hey, it's Friday night!)
God, I remember when I would be only getting started on a Friday night out on the town at about the same time I start thinking of hitting the sack nowadays π‘
We had that conversation last night! I was in bed at 10.30 happily worn out by my 5k, the previous nights first yoga class and a days cleaning the house (it's been a while!) thinking: 'I used to be such a party animal... but this is so much better!'
Thankyou... I feel so happy, it's bonkers! Just knowing it's doable for me (I have a long history of back problems following a car crash and at one point we weren't sure I'd ever walk properly let alone run). I'm planning to go back to the 10% increment: today should have been 36 mins (ahem!)
Well done. Got yourself an early Christmas present then !! I'm running 6K in 40 minutes at the moment to build stamina. Intend to keep that up and occasionally drop down to 5K and see if I can improve my times for that. But as they say don't worry about the times. I find that my speed naturally will increase.
Coping with a new hill and lake after moving home (and cold weather) at moment so consolidating what I've done so far. I have a weakness for Mince pies ! So have to make sure I'm still running over the holiday period !
Thanks! That's good and should definitely help with the mince pies! I'mm definitely going back to consolidating now. Thought I'd push myself today and was prepared to stop sooner. Sooo, next Friday 39 mins and we'll see where it goes! Lakes are good. And I'm learning to love inclines. Or undulations, as the were more today!
Thankyou! It feels very 'yay'! I did push it a bit today and I'm going to go back to the 10% increase next week, from where I should have been today (so 39 mins next Friday and whatever pace is comfortable). You'll get there - if you want to.
Well done! My first 5k took me 50 minutes so you've beaten me! Months later, I'm still not down to 30 minutes yet (30 minutes 30 seconds is my PB). But no matter what speed we do it in, we're lapping everyone still on the couch.
Well done Polly! good time first 5k, try not to worry about getting the extra 11mins 43 secs off, it could take a while, just keep chipping away though, and let us know your times as you go..π
Thanks davelinks ! I will be throttling back and taking it steady again - just wanted to see if I could do it and it was a nice morning to run. Hope slinky continues (just saw your post - glad she's on the mend) recovering well and you're ok.
Well done Polly! And a respectable time too! Not surprised you are so chuffed. Just keep chipping away at that time and you will get to your aim. Go Polly!
I thought of you when I clocked the time! (although I couldn't remember exactly who, I just remembered the post!). I'm going back to building back up again. It makes sense and we both know it's there!
Damn skippy! Have a good week-end. (I'm beginning to feel the after effects of my first yoga class last night, my first 5k this morning and the rest of the day cleaning and shopping. Good job wine's a muscle relaxant!!)
