Hip and knee pain

Hey all,

So I’m currently on holiday, I’ve not run this week, but I have walked 48 miles in 4 days! I’ve been getting pain in my hip radiating down the outside of my leg and to my knee at the top of the shin. Anyone know what this could be?

Thanks

Laura

Hi Bluebird

It may be your IT band - do you stretch well..? Look up stretches for your IT band.

Are you wearing the same trainers to walk in as you do when running - or is it walking boots?

Different footwear puts you in slightly different positions you see.

Lots of rest - and of course you must be due a good massage with all that walking!

Good luck :-)

Oh - and look up strengthening exercises for your IT band too - that could really help :-)

Wow 12 miles a day for 4 days is a lot! Are you used to that level of exercise? If not then it's probably just over use strain/ soreness and test should help. But if the pain persists see a specialist doc or sports physio. That pain could be from your lower back, groin, knees muscles or ligaments! It's complicated, get it sorted to prevent long term issues. Best wishes and enjoy your running

Hi All, no I’m not used to walking such distances in consecutive days. We normally go on a 10k walk once a week, but that’s the joy of a city break! I’ve been wearing my trainers that I run in.I’ll take a look at IT band stretching. Thanks all.

It does sound like IT band, but we are not medical professionals.

Can I just make a statement, as a runner and as a walker...........running shoes are for running in, walking shoes (or boots) are for walking in.

Not what you're looking for?
