SPRING FEVER QUEST...MAY...WEEK 3.

Hi everyone...

Here we are again... we have had some lovely sunshine ..but a little chillier here in the Staffordshire Moorlands to day!

I am getting back up to speed after a spell of non running and the sunshine certainly helps:)

So please feel free to join in if you have graduated. We will be running these Quests every month, updating weekly, so don’t worry you can join in any time after Graduation, it doesn’t matter when it is even if it is just for the last week.

Also please join if you have graduated and are on the IC, We have found reading and supporting other runners when we are on the IC helps to keep motivation up and helps to still feel part of this community so if you are on the IC put your name down, we will support you all they way back to your first run.

Here is the explanation of what the Quest is.

What the Quest is:-

The Quest lasts for a calendar month

You can join any time within that time.

The main aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

We ask that you are a Graduate .

The main reason we ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured, so we wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train for a specific race

To add In Stretch and strength exercises

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.

Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the Quest can talk about how things are going.

Our advice to you, is to make your goals achievable, as it is very easy to get discouraged if you aim too high. It is better to aim a little lower and feel great at the end of the Quest and add some more in for the next Quest. Motivation is at its best when you feel a sense of achievement through something you are trying to do.

Please don’t forget that all the forums are here for your benefit. They are set up to help with questions and queries as your progress on your running journey. Feel free to join any or all. You will find different levels of help on each forum, so well worth a look around.

We have the Bridge to 10K - this forum is for runners who need a little bit more technical advice than that, offered on the C25K.

healthunlocked.com/bridgeto10k

We have the Marathon Running and Race support.

Again this is another step up in the type of advice that is offered and it is there if you should ever need it.

healthunlocked.com/marathon...

We have the Strength and Flex forum, which is set up to help you with the NHS stretches and Strength workouts. Squats, lunges and the like are all in these programs.

healthunlocked.com/strength...

We also have the Active 10 which used to be called Walking for Health. It is a great forum for sharing your walks on your days off or if you are on the Injury Couch.

healthunlocked.com/active10

Please feel free to have a look round all the forums but also keep in mind we need your help for new runners, so you can support and encourage them on the C25K forum as they learn to run, so they can come and join us on these Quests once they have graduated.

Happy running to you all... stay safe and stay running:)

Dear OF! I love the looks of England and remember reading stories of the moors as a child. Why did my ancestors leave?! I love the looks of your footpaths! Maybe someday before I die I might get there. Anyway, I am ramping up my walking and have done 6.4 miles as of today, with three more days to go. If my leg feels sufficiently healed, I'll restart running, which is such a chore to schedule with caretaking!

I would love for you to get here...Huge well done on the walking too...! Now did I miss a post re your leg... ??? Please tell me more?

Ah, it's nothing. I have had some minor pain near one knee for some time since trying to resume running. I'll just dial back and more slowly try to get back to it--starting with the walking. I have no need of a doctor or anything--I'll just let my body heal itself without medical intervention and get walking exercise for now.

Sorry to hear about your leg Al, wishing you a good recovery...also it must be very very difficult scheduling runs with caretaking....dont forget to look after Al too!

Goal: to consolidate running 30 mins three times a week.

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to Pinkpig20

Well done ..but for consolidation try mixing the runs... 30 minute ones, shorter and lovely longer ones too; It is the long slow runs that build everything up.. stamina, strength and of course the running legs:) New routes too are a great idea:)

Ok thank you for the advice. I am going to go to Park run in a couple of weeks.😀

I’m going to try for 5 k. I’m doing the 30 minute consolidation runs and during the running section I’m doing over 4 k so I’m going to push on and extra few minutes each run next week to try and reach the fabulous 5. I will NEVER do it in 30 minutes even on the flat, but it would be good to reach that 5 k. After that, well I may well try Park Run!

See my reply to Pinkpig20 ... mix the runs up a bit and do put some lovely longer runs in...they do really help. I call them my, see where I get to runs:)

Well done you!

Hi, I’ve been keeping up my 30 minutes 3x week since graduation (2 weeks). I’m determined to keep it in my routine so will make that my goal. I’m hoping it will be easier and I will cover more ground as I gain experience but I’m not putting pressure on myself to do that. I just want to keep my new fitness level. I’m so thankful for C25K and this forum. 😊

A bit late updating on this. I had a week with 3 runs in it, two short and one fitting the 'longer' bill of my Quest goal and got a very swanky bit of bling for it. I seem to be doing a lot of runs wearing, well, whatever. Maybe I should dig out a wedding dress and try that? I did have a bit of a wiped out week after that, although it could have been for other reasons.

Yoga on 11 out of 19 days so on track to achieve my Quest goal and no long gap between my practices, ditto.

Today I got back in the pool, so that's one Quest goal ticked off. Looked at how the rest of the month was going to pan out and didn't want to box myself into a corner I couldn't get out of. I was also motivated to go because I needed to water my Dad's memorial tree (yes, we got permission to plant one in the grounds of the sports centre, such was his love for the place)

All looking positive on the goals..and the pool swimming too..good that you got permission to plant the tree 😊 We have a tree planted for my dad too... at the Kibblestone Scout Camp..My Dad was County Commissioner for scouting..it is so big and tall now..hardly able to recognise it.

I like the idea of running in whatever..I've become more relaxed now about gear...!
