Chicken Run 🐥

I have set myself target to complete a park run this year and this is why I did C25K. Today I totally chickened out of doing the park run. I couldn’t park anywhere near (I would have to drive to all my nearest P/Rs) so I drove off to another park and had a lovely solo 5k. Feel a bit pathetic 😬

God, don't be so hard on yourself! You did a solo 5k run instead of spending ages trying to park and missing the start. You didn't stay in bed and refuse to go, you didn't drive home and sit on the couch - you ran the 5k,just in a different location. I think that's something to feel good about!

Thank you. I did enjoy my run today in a different location to my usual run. I’ll try again at the park run. Have a lovely weekend.

Sorry about that, Rugbygirl, at least you had a 'solo 5K parkrun' which you seemed to have enjoyed, not sure if I should call the runs I do "chicken runs" just this morning I reran run 3 of week 5, the run that scares some people before they run it, but after they run it they are considered proper runners, I ran it at a pace a little quicker than the first time I ran it last year. 😊

I have to drive to my local Parkrun too, it’s a very popular one and the car parks are not huge so I always make sure I am there by 8:30, then just sit in the car for a bit or have a walk around the park as a warm up before the start. Don’t give up, it really is worth doing Parkrun at least once (some people don’t enjoy it but lots do).

You still got out and ran and that’s more amazing than anything else! I would argue that it’s harder to run alone than with a group of others too! You go!

As a suggestion, you could try a 'test-drive' of your parkrun course during this week. There will be a map/description of the route on the parkrun website. Why not go and run the route before next Saturday? One less thing to worry about on the day.

And do you think that the concern about parking is masking an underlying concern? You are clearly capable of running the distance and the parking should not prevent you from going. Do you know anyone who also goes to the parkrun? My local parkrun has an active group on facebook and folks are often asking about lift-shares, tips for newbies etc. So you could try to find someone who can go with you.

Good tips. I’m not usually a worrier, but I could do with a bit more confidence. I’ll look at the map and maybe go on the bank holiday thank you.

You could have turned around and gone back home, but you didn't. You ran 5 kilometres!! Well done!

I bottled it too! I wasn’t quite ready for it but will try next week 😊

I will try again, I hope you get there too.

Thank you. I have no excuse really as my park run is a 5 minute walk from my house! However, I am waiting to be on solid runs in the plan (so no intervals) so that I could get the most out of the park run. This week I start W5 so I am nearly there xx
