Another milestone (or is there such a thing as a kilometrestone????)

Consolidation run 3 today and it went very well. I did a fartlek treadmill session on Nike Run Club. It was really nice having the guidance again even though the instructor was slightly too 'keen'. Saying that, the run itself was amazing and a good balance of 'fast' and slow. It felt a bit like the old C25K sessions except that this time, instead of walking, I was slowing down to a recovery run (which is the pace I did my whole C25K plan on). Once I'd done the 28 minute guided run, I could see how close the treadmill was to 5k so I kept going. I was absolutely over the moon when I reached 5k just before the 35 minute mark!! I know that's slightly longer than the 10% increase recommended by people on consolidation but there's no way I could have stopped at 33 minutes when the 5K was in sight!

Anyway, that might be my last treadmill run for a while as I'm back home from work on Wednesday so am going to make a conscious effort to get outside. I'll have to learn to juggle the ties of a new baby and increasingly energetic toddler and make sure my wife gets more time to herself since she's been with the kids by herself these past 3 weeks (with support from family and friends) so she deserves a wee rest too. Besides, I'm absolutely dying to see the kids and spending quality time with them is the reason I do the job that I do. I just need to get up early to run or something. I'm not much of a morning person but I think if I set myself up for it, I'm more likely to do it in the morning than in the evening once the kids are in bed. Guess I'll just have to play it by ear to see how I get on.

Actually, so long as your other runs aren’t 35 as well you will be within the weekly 10% rule. Congratulations on that 5k and in a very good time too. Very brave taking on the fartleks!!! Happy running.

Enjoy spending some time with the kids.

Ahhhhhh....... it's a weekly 10%?? No, my other runs were just 30 minutes. Oh well, not breaking the rules then. Doesn't take the shine off though. With fartleks I suppose they're only as hard as you make them. It just feels like you're pushing yourself slightly more. Think I might leave them till one a week though. Reckon I'm going to feel it tomorrow!!

Thanks Buddy. Can't wait. I feel much more comfortable running now so am hoping it translates well to running outside again.
