I'm just about to start week 9 and I was really hoping by now I could say I enjoy running. The only thing keeping me carrying on is that i dont like to fail and give up so i will get through the last 3 runs but I am struggling with it and don't enjoy it! Has this happened to others? I was hoping I'd be wanting to increase to 10k after this but really can't wait to finish it and get back to other exercises at the gym...
Anyone not enjoying it at the end?: I'm just... - Couch to 5K
Anyone not enjoying it at the end?
I found I was starting to enjoy it until I started to transition to outdoor running and found it was like starting all over again.
I’ve stuck with it due to the improvements I can feel in my general health. For motivation to keep update on here and I’ve I’ve joined an online running group on FB and I now feel like I’ve let myself down if I miss a run. I will start to enjoy it more as the job in hand gets easier!
Not sure if you are running inside.... if not, then running outdoors could open up a whole new world. Quite literally, where, every single run is different... I love it!
But, running is not for everyone, and you are to be commended for seeing this through...
You think too, of the reasons why you began this particular thing; have they changed... why not incorporate some outdoor running into your other exercise regime...Many of us have used, and still use our other exercise on rest days, to supplement the running!
I’ve tended to not be over enthused on wake up but got out there; as I’d promised myself the night before. Once out I’ve then decided how much I’d do depending on my general feeling of the moment. After the first ten minutes or so I’ve picked up the rhythm and said to myself, ‘Why not aim for 30 minutes?’
I’ve then done the 30mins, and sometimes a few minutes over. I try and make it an adventure by exploring local places I’ve never been whilst on my run.
I was a sprinter as a kid and cross country type running never did it for me then. Now I’m in control of the decisions about it and not the PE teacher. 😉🏃♀️
I’d say that finishing the app was really freeing. Getting rid of the structure and just enjoying being outside running at your own pace has been a revelation to me.
If you are running in the gym then there is no surprise.
Outdoor running at an easy conversational pace will provide huge mental, physical and sensory stimulation.
Going too fast will leave you drained and aching.
Are you struggling with the running as well as the enjoyment? Maybe you’re running too fast a pace for you to enjoy it. A slower, gentler pace may suit you?
But it seems it’s nit for everyone who graduates - someone else did a couple of weeks ago and said goodbye. For me the changes to my body, the mental wellbeing benefits are a key motivation to continue but (thanks to Japanese slow jogging style) having found a running technique that suits me, I’ve learned to love the slow running in the moment.
