Putting off W5R3 for as long as possible? How was it?

As soon as I saw a 20 minute run jump up on me I was terrified. 8 minute runs seemed long-winded and strenuous, so a 20 minute run is surely impossible? Because of this fear, I essentially stopped the program altogether!

Today, after 2 months of avoiding W5R3 I just woke up with an urge to move, so I headed to the gym with the thought of doing a quick HIIT workout to hopefully ignite some motivation for running again.

After a 5 minute warm up walk, I was increasing the treadmill speed when all of a sudden I thought, sod it. So I began running and 20 minutes later... I was still running! I am so in shock! Dare I say, it felt relatively...easy? I'm back and excited to get a 5K under my belt!

(I'm aware that jumping back into running with a 20 minute run maybe wasn't the smartest idea, but when motivation hits I have to roll with it!)

Nothing to be scared of regarding run 3 of week 5, you did it on a treadmill, well done, perhaps you were aware that going straight into it after a while off running was taking a risk, however, it seems to have paid off for you, I have been rerunning some of C25K but I started with run 1 of week 3 then 4.1, 5.1, 5.2 next 6.1, 6.2 and run 3 of week 5 to start the longer runs, like you doing C25K the second time you can be a little flexible.

Welcome and well done.

Jumping back in and doing 5k (which I presume you didn't do in 20 minutes!!) is not very wise.

Slow and steady progression is always the safest way to build up the body's conditioning. Stick to the plan to avoid injury.

You might find this guide to the plan helpful too healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Take care.

Sorry should’ve clarified, definitely not looking at doing 5k anytime soon. Just looking forward to getting back into following the plan and eventually hitting 5k😊

I was the same when I saw the jump went from 8 minutes to 20 minutes but on week 8 it goes from 25 to 28 so you know you can do it. It must be worked out scientifically to help us xx

Must admit I’m dreading it and my app didn’t work today and I was glad as I needed 4 puffs of inhaler to recover in the gap (I’ve a cold so kinda knew I’d struggle!!) between the two 8 minute runs so I’m dreading it even more!! Well done 👍 you did so well, def think it’s mind over matter, I didn’t think I could do 8 minutes so this program is def amazing 😊
