To run or not to run ...

Supposed to be the big one ... w5r3 today, and I sit here thinking is it wise to do it today .... I have achy legs, not painful at the moment, just the achyness you get when you've done some exercise, so I dont want to do it and fail at it because my legs start to hurt too much, this is the one run I dont want to stop during... bit of a mental game I think. Equally I don't want to be making excuses not to go out there and face the one I'm dreading. So its either get out there (in the rain!) And face it, or I'll have to wait till Monday... which would mean I've had 3 days without running, that worries me too that I'll struggle because it's been longer. 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

You won’t lose any fitness for about two weeks, so you’re safe on that score. And it is important to learn to listen to your body, and I can’t feel the aches you have. However! I’ve learned from hard experience that you can plan a delay, and something else will crop up (food poisoning in my case 😳😬) that then delays you even more. If you do a longer warm up walk - delay starting the app - you’ll be sure to have got your legs going and if you run slowly you won’t injure yourself. You should take this first long run at a slow steady pace. You are ready for this, and running in the rain is (or can be) quite pleasant!

If legs are just feeling worked, but have had a rest day, then the best thing you can do for them is to keep them moving. Whether you run or not is your decision, but keeping up with momentum is important.

It definitely helps me to keep moving, even on my run days I’ll still have a walk as well, I’ve not had any problems with achy legs and I’m sure this is why.

I know the feeling. It’s a mind game. Don’t worry about losing fitness, there’s a couple of week window. Try extending your warm up walk and see how you go. A brisk walk may loosen the legs up, then you can be off. Unfortunately the weather doesn’t look much better tomorrow round here, so putting it back a day may not make a difference. Good luck with whatever you decide. Let us know how you get on.😊🏃‍♀️
