...because I still can't :-(. Blooming decorating really pinged something in my lower back. When I started running I couldn't walk, let alone run very far without a really focussed 'needle' of pain in my lower back screaming at me.

My physio wife tells me it is because I have terrible posture and need to 'tuck my pelvis under', which is _not_ something you should practice in public!

I focussed on my form from week 1 and within a few weeks the pain went when I ran and it hadn't appeared since then...well, not since decorating last week and now that symptom is back again - sigh.

I was planning to go for my first run this evening as walking didn't aggravate it, but no, mowing the lawn has left me incapacitated once again.

Blummin rabbits - I am so jealous.

My Garmin joined you on the IC this morning - complete black screen job! Fortunately, it is easier to reset than a dodgy back. Poor you YC. I will be tackling the lawn this afternoon, so will probably need beer to sort out my achy back later (have you tried that option yet? - it's lovely mixed up with nurofen!). I have a bit of a groin strain at the moment too which is fine once I get into my stride when running, but hurts like billy-o when I get up out of my desk chair in the office - much old lady groaning occurs.

I realised this morning that I missed my 2 year runniversary last week - I started this whole journey on 3 June 2014. What a change to my life!

Hope a few more days' rest will sort you out.

Hope you're back out there soon yatesco. In the meantime, plenty of ice might help, although you probably have all the advice you need right there at home! 🙂

Oh it's so debilitating and frustrating isn't it? Just do as your wife says (shame a few other men don't follow that advice) 😉

Sounds like a good time to be cadging lots of massages! Running posture is something I've been trying not to think about too much, assuming it is pretty grim and being thankful that trees don't reflect. I was reading a post by ju-ju- this morning about clenching your butt to improve posture and speed. Perhaps you can work on that in the meantime so you have it down pat for your next run.

sorry to hear you are still on the IC, however you may have done me a favour, I stripped the wallpaper off my hallway about a year ago( maybe more...) and have procrastinated about redoing it since..I was just about to bite the bullet and make myself do it but now feel decorating is way too risky before my triathlon! So thanks for giving me a great reason to delay it more!

You sound like my hubby. I waited 7 years for my house to be painted! It was raining, too hot, too many flies, too cold the list went on and on until we moved.............

heavyhorse profile image
heavyhorseGraduate in reply to Slowstart

sadly my other half has become disabled so if I want something done I have to do it myself, but I would make a good man...I can procrastinate just as well as any male!

Unfortunately my hubby has the same reason now, but at least we know it's down to us if we want anything done.

and we also know the pitfalls of dangerous decorating now too!

We even have it in writing to prove how dangerous decorating is, but I don't think the triathalon would be any safer for me either. Good luck with yours.

It's bad enough being on the IC because of a running injury, but even more annoying when caused by another factor. I slipped on a neighbours' drain cover and hurt my knee, then had a big dog knock into me through excitement so i do sympathies. At least you have professional help at hand.

Ouch again.... poor you.

Should you really be mowing the lawn if you are still in pain?

Posture is a big problem, or can be... as boptillyoudrop49 suggests.. following ju-ju- 's advice re butt clenching could work....:)

I seem to remember doing that, jogging along a tow path, way back..( you have to pretend you are holding a penny between your butt cheeks.. go figure), also I was always given the advice, re- a thread from the top of your head, holding you upright... relax your shoulders and loosen your arms..:)

With this much advice flying around, you could end up cutting a really comical figure... and having a strained brain!

Feel better soon x

Hi @oldfloss - I wasn't in pain _before_ I mowed the lawn :-(.

It is amazing how quickly my 41 years dissolve away, reverting to somewhere between a toddler and a 5 year old.

Oh Yatesy , whats going on mate ?

First your knee, then the lurgy , now your back , poor you :-(

Hope you feel better soon, we miss your posts full of gadgetry and techie things, even though I didn't understand a word of it, it was very endearing reading of your enthusiasm :-)

This forum needs you Yatesy ! :-) xxx

It definitely does. We have him as a runner now so he needn't think he can slip away. Mind you that technical stuff is over my head. I don't usually have any idea what he's talking about.

Oh dear Yatesy! What are you like!!!! Mowing the lawn, decorating! Are you completely off your head. There's running to be done. Save the domestic drudgery for another day when it's snowing or sommat.

I once did a full body dive onto my pasting table when decorating at the top of the attic stairs. My husband, who is all heart, treated me to a proper scaffold so I'd be safe next time. Bless!

Having a bad back is horrible so you have my sympathy. Is it that low back pain that seems to pull you down like some force is dragging you down? Hideous! You will probably need to rest in bed while it's at its worst.

Take care matey!
