I’ve got damaged cartilage in both. I take a brilliant supplement for it. I warm up and cool down. I’ve proper running shoes and I’m careful with foot placement.
It doesn’t feel like the normal flare up. Both knees feel stiff and sore all over. Started taking ibuprofen before a run, but still struggle with discomfort. Completed w4r2 tonight. Unsure how they’ll cope with w5r3 next week. Thanks in advance ☺️

I’d say that as you have an existing complaint you should see a doctor. That said, if it’s a different type of pain it could be muscular. Mine hurt at week 3 so I stuck to the week 3 runs for three weeks whilst my ‘new’ muscles could build up. I took ibuprofen too to ease it a little. Drink plenty of water every day and include som knee and glute strengthening exercises in your routine.
You know your body so do what feels right for you. Hope it gets better soon.
I came into this plan with knees that had been painful for 30 years... couple of surgeries on each didn’t take the pain, and I was told I couldn’t run way back then. I decided I was going to run and my doctor said that would be a good idea... go figure, medical opinion has changed. So I ran and my knees hurt... and I carried on. Then, when I was supposed to be on a rest day I figured I was superman and did some sprints and fast turns on sand... twisted my knee... obviously my other knee started to play up more on sympathy and I thought that running may be over for me. Then I was pointed at the strengthening exercises in the guide... and the Strength and Flex plan. I didn’t run for two weeks, and then I ran in knee braces for two more... then when they came off I was back on it. Next day, no pain! That was last summer and my knees have been better than ever since. So, if you’re not already cross training, get on it... strong legs and a strong core will help a lot and the running can then strengthen the knees up.
Great job so far... enjoy the next run and I hope this helps.
