Hi all, I've done my first walk/run today. I decided to do this as part of a big lifestyle change. I'm very overweight and need to get healthy. I knew that this c25k would be hard, but didn't think I'd struggle to run for 60 seconds - but I did. I was about 5 seconds short each time. Anyone else struggled on their first run and does it get better?

Morning to you, yes I did struggle on my first runs. I found it helpful to say well done to myself as I jogged and also told myself I was enjoying it. Have just started week 8 and am very surprised to be able to keep going for 25 minutes. A couple of times I have repeated runs that didn’t go well and I found this helped. Well done for getting started and know that it will get easier as you go along.

Hi there, just started my first walk/run today too. Week 1 day 1. I am also doing as a lifestyle change - need to lose weight if I don’t want to end up diabetic. Have been told I am pre-diabetic so high risk if I don’t do anything about it. I am sure we can keep each other motivated.

Yay! We can keep each other going! Sounds like we're in similar positions. How did you find it today?

Almost EVERYONE struggles on their first run !! -- except me !! And that is because I could not even think about doing the first run of C25K. I was 67 yo and had never been able to run all my life. Running for one minute eight times over was impossible!!! So I walked for about a month until I thought I could start this MAYO clinic 7 week programme mayoclinic.org/healthy-life... Now THIS I COULD do !! - and after I completed that, I did do C25K and moved on from there . Now at age 72, I am training for my first full marathon in July this year. :) I am a very slow runner - and this will take me 6hours and 30 minutes to complete . It really is amazing what we can do. :)

That is amazing! Well done you! Have to say that like you, I've never run so it is definitely a challenge!

Well done on starting Wk1 and on taking the decision to do C25K. 😊

It definitely gets easier. I found W1R2 a completely different experience to run 1. The program builds up gradually to allow your strength and stamina to increase. You will be surprised at how quickly things improve. The proof can be found in the number of people of all ages and backgrounds who have gone on to graduation.

I’m now in the middle of Wk4 and I’m so glad I started.

You will get so much support and encouragement on this forum, so keep posting here.

Enjoy 😊

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

If you don't complete a run then repeat it until done.

Enjoy your journey.

Hello and welcome

Some people repeat runs or weeks if necessary. We are all different and one of the great things about this programme is you do it at your own pace. The only competition is with yourself 👍😊🏃🏾‍♀️

Good luck 😉

I thought I would die on that first run! My first breakthrough was learning that my brisk walk could be faster than my run. And then I saw this m.youtube.com/watch?v=9L2b2... And still run this way. It might really help you get into this. Running this way I enjoy the running itself not just the feeling of having done it! It’s low impact so will help you avoid injury and it solved my breathing issues too. I hope it helps. And good luck - this is amazing and it can really work for you too - don’t think you can’t do this because of size or fitness- just go nice and slow and you’ll be staggered by what you can achieve!

It does get better with practice keep going we've all been there. Go out and try run 1 again and move on only when you've completed it in full. Good luck you can do this 😊😊

Hi, how are you doing with week 1? I am going to do w1r3 now. Just got back from work but clocked a grand total of 863 steps so feel like I should go but I don’t want to! Hope you are doing good..
