Phone holder

I run with my phone in my hand. Are there any better ways of carrying my phone ? I’ve seen arm things and waist belts. I have a fold over case at the moment and I don’t want to keep having to take it off , if it needs to fit into something different for running. Any advice ?

I've never understood why folks have their phones on an arm-band. It just does not seem to be a convenient (or comfortable) place to have a phone.

All of the waist-worn running belts (like the ever-popular flipbelt) are intended to hold the phone snugly on your waist or hips. Often there are 2 pockets - one for your phone and one for tissues/keys/etc. I think that the biggest problem will be the fold-over case - most of the running belts are a snug fit (so that the phone does not bounce/slide around when you are running). You'll probably do best to go into an independent running store and ask for advice "try before you buy".

I bought a running belt from amazon. It fits my house & car key, phone and tissues. It's great.

Hi Bunnyrunner. I purchased a Nike running belt from Sports Direct £14.99 I think. It comfortably fits my Samsung S9+ (with flip case) and a tissue/key. They had one which was a little bulkier in Primark but I gave this to my sister as she also needs to take her inhaler too. think that one was a couple of pounds.

Holding anything in your hands while running can create muscular asymmetries leading to tensions in shoulders and neck.

My vote is for a waist belt.

I noticed it for the first time last night on my 28min run. My neck felt a bit sore. No problems previous to that though. Looks like a waist belt is the way to go .

ooh, I didn't know that. Thanks will look for waistbelt.

Hiya Bunnyrunner I’ve tried all sorts, carrying phone (cramp in hand) armband, (too slippery) cheap waist belt, yep! cheap and nasty, eventually ordered flipbelt off Amazon, arrived last week. Lovely, should have got one before wasting money on all the other rubbish. Now awaiting for my new garmin to arrive, so phone can go in flipbelt. 🙂

Do you think it will fit an iPhone with a folding case ?

MarkyD profile image

Probably not. Depends on the model of iPhone, the exact size of flipbelt and the size of your cover.

I've got an iPhone X, with a back case on it - I think I'd get one with a flip case in there too. (Not with the other one, just if the one I had had a flip case, I don't have loads of phones, I'm not a secret agent or Jason Bourne. Sorry, where was I going with this? Oh yes....)

I started with an arm thing, which was great when I had a smaller phone, although it was a faff keeping the ear buds lead tidy. I've done other belts - but they always loosen up as I run, which is so bloody annoying, hoiking it up and tightening it as I'm galloping (Yeah, right!) along!

So I got the flipbelt, and I love it. Two thing I will say though - get the right size, (measurement table on their website,) and be warned that they can move around on really shiny clothes.

The flip belt will because it’s just like a Lycra waist band with slots to put in phone, tissues etc. Mine has a key clip too so you can’t lose it.. it is so much nicer than the ones with elastic or clip on belts. I bought a cheap one on the internet but will buy the genuine one soon as it’s got a bit more substance to it.

Got an armband, works well for me and I don't have a problem with it slipping, also fits a door key in it.

My running shorts and winter bottoms both have handy zips in the waist band. My iPhone and case fit in no problem at all.

I don’t seem to have pockets in anything .

All of my running clothing is Ron Hill brand(didn't know until I just looked at it !), but I guess other brands have pockets too.

Like others have said, I use a waist belt too. It fits in my phone and key. I bought mine from H&M for £9 and I love it.

I have a belt that was about £6 on Amazon. Fits my phone, car keys and room for more if needed.

Can highly recommend a flipbelt. I have the one with a zip (paranoid about loosing my keys!) And it easily takes my phone in its case.

The slot pockets allow me to plug earphones into the phone but run the cable up inside my clothing to stop it swinging around.

Never lost anything out the pockets yet 👍 oh and it really does stay where you put it, hips or waist :)

Is the one with a zip just an upgrade ? Isn’t there a clip in the original one for keys ?

The normal one has a clip, that's what I've got.

Decathlon leggings, not the cheapest set but the next level up. They have two zips, one for a phone and one at the back I put my key and Parkrun code in.

Be extra çareful with phone in the pockets Of your running tights, as I found to my cost! Put my phone happily away in my tights, zipped up...got home, stripped off, had my shower and being super efficient, put my running gear straight in the wash....phone as well! Not allowed another as I have gone through so many...now running naked....go with the belt.

Hi Bunnyrunner! I use a Fitletic waist belt, bought in Runnersneed, part of Cotswold Outdoor. Can’t remember what I paid but it does the job - 2 zipped pockets for phone and keys and an elastic belt to expand if I do! Tried an arm pocket but far too fiddly when I’m out trotting. Hope you find something to suit you soon!

Thanks, think I’m going to go for a waist belt. So glad I asked the question.

I wear a bum bag and don't have any issues with it.

Got it from amazon (other retailers are available) and just searched "Runners bum bag".

Hope you find something that works for you 👍
