Got rather carried away today and decided that I'd (literally) go the extra mile. So rather than turn around when Laura told me I was half way, I kept going to a point that I knew would add enough distance for me to do my first 5k. Mistake! I got as far as 4.5 k but had to stop as one knee was complaining loudly. That took me about 45 minutes - slowing down dramatically towards the end, so it would have been approximately 50 minutes for the full 5k. I think I'll stick to the 30 minutes for w9r3 and enjoy completing the course. After that - not sure whether to stick to 30 minutes and gradually up the pace, or gradually extend the distance regardless of time. Or just keep enjoying the 30 minutes and not push for anything. After all, it is something of a miracle that I've got this far at all! All advice welcome.
w9r2 - a 'run too far': Got rather carried away... - Couch to 5K
w9r2 - a 'run too far'
Take it as a warning.
Take care and follow well constructed training plans.
Good that you stopped... and lesson learned! Enjoy that graduation run.
It’s pretty hard to get faster without going further too... quickest progress over 5k is the product of both your options there.
Thanks. Yes, of course you're right. Faster over 30 mins = further; further in the same time = faster. On reflection I'm pleased that I gave it a go (life in the old dog yet etc ....) But I think I'm going to stick to 30 mins and see whether it gets any easier. Then, maybe, extend the range a bit at a time. I may also look into some sort of support for the errant knee. The main thing is to keep doing it and enjoying it.
I did this ! On w9 r1. Nearly put me completely off. I think I am going back to 30. Going to slow it right down for the final one
