On Friday I finished week 7 in the rain and mud, but did feel good to get that under my belt.
For some unfathomable reason I woke up today and decided to go and try my local parkrun. I know I should have left a day in between, but I felt good, so why not? Got welcomed in at the start and decided against using the app, so first run without Jo in my ears or even headphones.
My local parkrun is a trail track with a steep hill in the middle and you run it twice. Somehow, and with lots of encouragement from other runners (I have to say thank you to them) I managed it all the way round, to complete in 33'20". Well pleased, but going to take a couple of days off.
My first Parkrun, first 5k and first run over 30'! Not bad for a Saturday morning.

Congratulations rustywheels on completing your first 5k Parkrun in 33.20 today, a little risky running on consecutive days but you should be OK, have a good rest now.
Congratulations, rustywheels. To me, that showed courage. I hadn't considered doing such until I had finished the course (and then I might hold off until after some consolidating runs). I'm glad it went well for you and hope it is the first of many Parkruns.
Well done. Great that you’ve discovered parkrun. I get that you went on impulse and hadn’t planned to go, but in general it’s best just not to run on Friday if you think you might want to parkrun on Saturday, at least till you’ve been running 9-12 months. It’s important to realise that non-running days are not there because you’re tired: they are a crucial part of the way the training works whether you are tired or not. It’s not that you can’t, but that you shouldn’t normally run on consecutive days because your body needs that day to process the benefits of your run the day before. So do please be careful. I’ve now been running nearly a year but until last month, it was just a given that I didn’t run on Friday so I didn’t have to miss parkrun (unless I had volunteered to tailwalk it of course).
