To parkrun or not?

Hi, I am currently at W7,R2 and have read about parkrun on the forum. Was thinking of attempting parkrun this weekend as my run 3 of this week, with the knowledge I can walk if the distance is too much. Am I setting myself too big a challenge and should I wait till I have graduated?

Yes, definitely go to parkrun, it will be a great experience.

BUT

parkrun is a 5km course and you will be doing W7r3, which is a 25 minute run. Don't risk injury by trying to run as fast as everyone else, or by trying to suddenly run 5km.

For a foolproof first experience of parkrun, try this:

Don't warm up before the run starts.

Start at the back of the pack. When the run starts, begin your 5 minute warm-up walk (this allows all of the faster runners to get out of your way).

Do your 25 minute run, then walk for the 5-minute cool-down walk, then walk for the remainder of the course.

When you can see the finish funnel, have another run, so that you cross the finish line running (don't be tempted to start running too early, or set off too quickly).

Agree all above, plus do register, print out your barcode and take it with you wrapped in something waterproof. Here's the link …..
