Wk7, R1 & I don’t think I like jogging

Finding the full 25 minute run pretty rubbish really. Despite doing slow jogging, I’m still having issues with a sore knee. I’ve come to the conclusion, that I don’t really think I like jogging. Is that the wrong thing to say?? Determined to complete the programme though.

Not sure about the sore knee as not medically trained but try and push through this feeling of not liking the 25 mins of run. You might be surprised soon that you ARE able to do it. I’m off for my WK 7 run 2 tomorrow morning. Let’s see how we do eh?

The latter weeks of the plan can seem like slog, but when you graduate you can stop increasing the demands on your body each week and just run for fun, somewhere beautiful and inspiring.

Stick with it, it is so worthwhile.

I felt like that in W7 - the continuous running was a bigger shock to my brain than my legs. 😂 ( “I can’t stop yet???? Really??!!!)

By W8 I was feeling quite a bit better - & then better still 3weeks after that. 😀 Hang on in there, it will improve.

You either like running or you don't ,

If you like something you are more than likely to stick to it !pointless beating yourself up over it , if running is not for you that fine , I am sure there's something out there you enjoy 😉

I’m only on w5 so don’t know what the runs feel like for you. But I did struggle for 3 weeks with exceptionally sore knees that made daily movement painful. I used knee and flute strengthening and stretching exercises and repeated to same run for 3 weeks until I’d built up my knees and reduced the pain to a dull ache, then got back on with the plan.

I hope you find something that works for you. This is such a positive investment for mental and physical health. Good luck.

I hit the wall in week 7 and was really struggling. I have spaced out the runs much more and have actually really enjoyed week 8. I may take the longest time to actually complete the programme but I am still getting out there and actually starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel! Definitely keeping going to finish the programme and see how you feel. I also have a very painful knee and have found a stretchy knee support helpful.

Have to say I've yet to experience the endorphins that are supposed to go with exercise. But I try and remind myself of the benefits to my heart and lungs and how much more healthy I am. It is extraordinary to be able to jog for 25 mins (can you still remember struggling with 90 secs?) so well done for what you've achieved.

I hope you resolve your knee problem .

Now I wouldnt say “enjoyment” is a word I would use when running, i can think of a much better one 😂🤭I have graduated and it does get better than Week 7 but love the feeling of achievement and health benefits I can feel afterwards. What about having two rest days in between runs sometimes (really helps me) go really slow, drink loads of water and do lots of stretching/yoga exercises which may ease the pain of your knee but if persists maybe worth a check with doc. Good luck and keep going - ignore those gremlins, think positive and you will smash it 👊

I can't say I am a huge fan, but it gives me more options and is less weather and daylight critical than cycling. So I plan to run walk and cycle as appropriate

It’s not the actual running that I enjoy so much as the achievement, increase in fitness (I really struggled with the first 60 seconds), and the running community. Well done for deciding to finish the program. Whether you keep going or not you’ve increased your fitness. After a month off I found I could still go out and run 5km slowly. You might find runs easier if you listen to music or Ted Talks.

I would get your knee checked out. It shouldn’t be painful. Can you see a physio?

Good luck.

I'm the same as Baddie, I like the "after run".

Occasionally I have a run that I really enjoyed but they are in the minority and so rather precious!!

Like it or not, I am fitter than I have ever been 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🤗

I like checking my heart rate on the treadmill at the end of the run and watch it drop down so much quickly than it used to!! I know that seems sad but it’s evidence that I’m much fitter than I used to be. That helped keep me going at this stage ❤️😃❤️

I have really struggled with week 7 so gone back to week 6 and doing each run twice. I also had knee pain as did my friend - we both found new trainers helped the knee pain...

Well done! It is tough as it goes on, we all find that! tough mentally, as long as you have no bad pain then push on through! If the knee is bad then it has to be be rested, never try and run through pain!

I'm a fellow W7R1 sufferer. I somehow found the identical session of W6R3 easier. After questioning my sanity, working out how he got to E=mc^^2 and deciding on how I would have my eggs for breakfast, Laura's voice comes on with, "You've run for 5 minutes. Keep going." I almost cried but soldiered on to the end. Another shuffler passed me. I took solace that he was just starting his session whereas I was ending mine.

Do you know why your knee is sore? Is it just an ache associated with strenuous exercise or is it an actual pain that might indicate an injury? If it were the latter it might be necessary to rest it and the runs might be more enjoyable once you weren’t injured. If the former - a couple of extra rest days might still help. I had a similar experience though it was week 8 in my case. It’s not cheating to take an extra day or two off occasionally if you need it.

I did have an injury on my right knee but it’s actually my left knee that hurts. I’ve just done a run after testing it since Tuesday and it’s much better and was a far better run than last time.
