I had to give myself the rest of last week off after last Tuesday’s ‘running through treacle’ run, as the next day I got out of breath walking up a hill with the dogs, and later that same day I started coughing!
Luckily I finally stopped coughing on Friday, so I felt more than well enough to drive the hour and half into Surrey to attend Bolt Round the Holt -though I do still have a bunged up nose etc.
I’m glad I went - even though I did have to run with enough tissues stuffed into my sports bra to make it look like I had 3 boobs 😳. The weather was mild and sunny and the route - which was mostly on fire track and shaded by trees - was excellently signed, with plenty of marshals. It was also the flattest event I have ever run - the undulations actually being very gentle slopes that I managed to run down even with Merlin pulling out front.
Ultimately, I could have done with a little more softness under foot as around the 4.5k mark I found my knees were hurting and felt I ought to take a walk break or suffer the consequences. I was also very hot by that point, so I was glad we were nearly at the end. My walk break lasted until I saw the first of my friends waiting to cheer on people she knew (her son already having finished 3rd Canicrosser) and then we ran to the finish - Merlin making a sudden swerve towards my other dog (who was being looked after by a different friend) as we approached it.
Official time 30:30 😁 which included 5 min/km first 1k, and a couple of small drink pauses for Merlin, but no comfort breaks apart from a quick leg lift!
Definitely one I’ll sign up for again, not least of all because it is run to raise funds for GUTS the Bowel Cancer Charity gutsfbc.co.uk
The t-shirts weren’t a freebie, but well worth the £5 they were asking for them
