Trolley Dash round Sainsbury's: does that count as 5K?

Well it's a rest from running day for me today, but I've just come back from a big shop at the supermarket as we have 17 people for a festive lunch on Sunday and I'm in charge of the cooking. Mr R. takes on the onerous responsibility of... smoothing with the guests (I suppose it has to be done as they are all his side of the family).

Anyway, I had a list as long as your arm, and after a quick trip to the butcher to buy what looked like half a pig (I'm making a porchetta) I decided to set myself the challenge of getting round Sainsbury without forgetting a single item! Well that may sound simple, but by the time I'd got to the veggie section, I'd forgotten to get the Christmas edition of the Radio Times, then having got all my fruit had a text to tell me to go back to stock up on lemons and limes. Then when I went to get golden syrup, they had decided to move it from the jam section to the baking section that I'd already passed. Infurtiating as I actually write my list in the order of my route round the shop to try and be efficient. And so it went on, and just as I got to the checkout I realised I had forgotten to get biccies and chocs for my old school (where I worked until September). So it was back to the entrance where they had all the Heroes.

Eventually I got through the checkout, only to realise I needed a bottle of something nice for my head teacher (in case I ever want a job there again, or a good reference).

And then there was the slog back to the car - I'd parked about a mile away as everyone else was also doing a trolley dash this morning. At last my shop was complete.

So I may not have had a run, but I reckon I must have easily covered 5k, although my time was pretty poor. (I should have put my running app on ;-) )

Looking forward to park run tomorrow, when hopefully there will be no sign of a shopping trolley.

Sounds as though you may have done some weight training too!

Hope the meal goes well on Sunday!

Thanks Ullyrunner. I'm looking forward to it, but will need to burn some calories tomorrow at Parkrun in readiness for it. ;-)

It definitely counts! In fact, I think you should treat yourself to a nice recovery hot chocolate and a mince pie :)

Good luck on Sunday. Cooking for 17 is quite a feat.

Oooh, I like the idea of a recovery hot chic and mince pie. I might just do that. :-)

I also prefer a hot chick for post run relaxation *lol*

Whoops, I think that was my auto spellchecker. I'll stick to the hot choc I think. ;-)

If it doesn't count as 5k it should definitely count as weight lifting!

I thought it would count as my weights work as my butcher handed me a 6kg piece of pork loin. ;-)

Oh the joys! Bonus exercise.

It wasn't really a bonus, as I should have been at the gym this morning. 🙄

Definitely counts as a workout! I have often wondered how many calories I burn on a typical shop. Mine tend to be long as I am feeding two adults, two teenagers and a rabbit! They usually whack me out more than a run! And think of all the upper body strength you'll gain from all that chopping/peeling/stirring on Sunday. I hope someone is cooking you dinner at some point!

That's so funny! I have my Christmas edition of Radio Times too! You're so like me, I make my list in order of the shop too, then get really frustrated when they change the order round. I bet you did over 5k! Good luck for tomorrow's parkrun. I shall be running virtually by your side. 👏🏻👏🏻🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏻🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏻🎅🏻🎅🏻🍀
