Opportunities unlimited from the gift of running.

As a novice trotter I am making my comeback from 15 sessions per week of daily strength and cardio sessions.

Of course overuse must have played some part in my ankle injury and followed by a stiff hip through resulting inactivity.

I am repeating C25k tried and tested adaption programme with 4 first timers who we call Penrhos Streakers.

They are all core members of a green gym group that started some five years ago and which is now an unfunded independent.

We complete WK2.3 on Monday. So far so good.

I am returning to the C25k party and I am looking forward to the many months and my slow return to some version of opportunities that are sustainably injury free.

The green gym group is establishing itself with sustainable session leadership and evolving fitness regimes.

The opportunities here on nhs live well/ strength& flex/ HealthUnlocked/ running forums are truly unlimited.

It’s a candy shop alright and I forgive myself for arriving here a year ago and over indulging.

I am a little wiser, but still a novice, and who knows I may end up over indulging again.

I do want to generally return to 15 sessions per week and daily strength and daily trotting , it’s just about finding the sensible balance.

For sure and at present I am following all the sound guidance.

Atb to everyone with your journeys.

Welcome back ! Success to you and your group. Just remember that restraint is a sign of strength, not weakness 😄

Rest days are important too! The repairs that your body does are actually building the muscle that will make you a better stronger runner (also making bone cells for a stronger frame, and more micro capillaries to get that blood pumping around more efficiently). So I’d suggest that daily running should be a long way off - without the rest, all the above can’t happen and you’re at greater risk of injury. Best to your group - sounds amazing!

Thanks DR., absolutely spot on.

I like to think of the rest days as repair days.

Yes to do the programme in a group is amazing.💥

Although I did enjoy the singular focus on the first time through.

Atb to you.
