Onwards and upwards!

This is my first post here, and somewhat ironically will be my last.

I've so far completed every run up to week 6 run 2, and I picked this programme as I used to love running, but suffered a few injuries that really held me back, and knew that while still recovering I'd need something relatively low-key to help build my strength back up.

Today, I went to my local parkrun event. It's been a good 7 years since i've done any sort of competitive running, and late last year I suffered a hip injury that left me struggling to even walk, let alone run. My only goal was to finish the run, and set a time to beat, even if it was a slow one.

But today, I tackled my first ever 5k, and completed the course in 29mins 40seconds. I did it, hurrah! I feel like I may as well have completed the C25K programme and graduated, even though on paper i've still got 10 runs left.

I've now signed up for a 10k run in May, in 8 weeks time, so i'm starting a new training programme that'll build up the stamina I need to complete it. Thanks to C25K, I know I can do it.

Sending love to all you amazing runners, wherever you are on your journey.

Wow that is an amazing recovery - and what a fabulous 5k run! Congratulations!

Congratulations on your 5k run, but with your history of injury, might I suggest that you are trying to rush things.

We are all capable of doing things that our bodies are not fully conditioned to do, without increased risk of injury.........hence the need for carefully progressive training plans that build your strength, step by step. Sticking to a good training plan should keep that risk minimal.

If you insist on leaving C25k behind (although I would urge you to continue with the plan and graduate properly) then you might find this guide to post C25k running helpful healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Take care.

Thank you for the advice; I feel i'm in a good place with my physical health right now, and I feel really comfortable in stepping it up a gear now, even if from the outside it looks like i'm moving a bit too quickly. The C25K definitely showed me I was fitter than I thought I was.
