Am just about to start W9 but am only able to run 2.4 miles in 28 mins , is it meant to be that you can run 5K in the 30 mins? I just don’t think I can do that😢
Distance against time: Am just about to start W... - Couch to 5K
Distance against time
The objective of the program is to run for 30 minutes three times in one week.
Whilst "C25K" is a catchy title, it is not accurate. But "C2r430m3xi1w" is a bit of a mouthful.
You are doing brilliantly, and can run for 30 minutes. 99% of the population cannot do that. And most graduates on this forum do not reach 5km in their 9th week. You can look in the "Polls" section of this forum.
Don't worry about your distance the point is you are finishing the runs, distance will come later well done 😊
I can't either. After finishing the programme I decided to focus on distance run rather than time. My 5km time varies enormously depending on I don't know what and invariably has a few intervals of walking! Slowest is around 48 minutes, fastest 32 minutes and everything in between. I figure not many women my age can run 5km or run/walk for 40+ minutes and I accept that I'm no Paula Radcliffe!
2.4miles equals 3.86km, looking good I reckon
As already said, the aim of this program is to get you running for 30 minutes, not necessarily to run 5K. I track my runs (including the walks either end) and covered 5.3K in total on my graduation. If you aim to run 5K, make that a target once you've graduated! Well done and keep going!
At the very start of week 1 Laura states that by the end of the program you will be running 5k OR 30 minutes. At no point during the program is distance referred to, only time. Both me and my partner have graduated. He was able to do just over 5k in 30 minutes. I did about 3.5k. We have to take into account age, gender and weight. We are the same age but he is 4 inches taller and 2 stones lighter than me. He resembles a racehorse whereas I resemble a hippo. You are almost running 30 minutes and that's the goal plus the extra 10 minutes walking. That's 120 minutes exercise in total a week. So 30 more minutes on non run days and that's the NHS recommended weekly amount of exercise. Congratulations getting this far and good luck.
Actually that's not quite correct - but in a nice way! The NHS recommendation is for 150 minutes of MODERATE exercise weekly. Running OR jogging counts as VIGOROUS exercise, and only 75 minutes of that is required for the same benefit.
Also 2.4 miles in 28 minutes is fabulous. Faster than 15 minute mile. I suspect after graduation and by the time you have completed 3 x 30 minutes runs a week for 3 weeks consolidation you will be achieving 5k or very close. That's 3.1 miles.
My best distance was 4.2k and I have varied a lot. I’m not worried now that I have heard loads of people don’t manage 5k in 30mins. That way you can enjoy it more and feel proud when you graduate regardless of distance
