W7R1 - not sure where the ‘strong woman’ went!

A three day weather forecast for gale force winds meant I had to run yesterday and I didn’t have time to drive anywhere flat either. So the local (hilly!) Parkrun park was the location. The moment I stepped out of the car and the wind buffeted me back against it, I knew it wasn’t going to be a good ‘un. So. From approximately three minutes in, I wanted to stop. Wind against, gradient... and then mud... meh! For 22 minutes, at each step, my brain had an argument, ‘you can’t do this... just stop’, ‘no, be strong’... just get to the bench... the bin... the tree. I had read on here that the mind is ready to give up when the body is only really 40% done, so I tried to ‘logic’ myself on. The downhill (wind behind!) bits were a sweet respite... but then it was the same routine all over again... Jo... where WERE you?!!! I ran in teeny, tiny pigeon-steps. And when Jo suggested with 60 seconds to go I might like to speed up... I *might* have shouted a reply she wouldn’t want to hear. And when, finally, it was the end I did the thing all strong women do: burst into tears 🙄.

Well done for doing it despite the weather I’ve just done W7R2 out there it’s pretty horrendous x

Thanks - and well done you for getting out... I’m scouting around for flat, ‘wind-behind’ roads near me for W7R2... but can’t find any long enough 😂! We’re covering some distance now, aren’t we? (And if I do find one, it’ll be a long walk back to the start!!)

Yay 🙌🙌! Brilliant effort tho! Despite what you say you’ve just proved your strength 💪💪! And here’s me bleeting on about just a wee hill and wind....you had mud too 😮😂! It is amazing thought to think we can do this considering the shape we were all in a few short week ago! Well done again 👍🙂

Ah thanks... And yay!! Let’s have a united ‘proud of ourselves’ moment... (while I continue to scrape the mud off my beloved Brooks...)

Oh my goodness I absolutely love this post! It’s made me giggle so so so much. I love your train of thought and how you describe what you were thinking! And we’ve all been in the same situation so it’s so relatable!

Huge huge huge well done on the park run! You should be so proud! Damn right strong women cry! I cried when I graduated C25K despite the local people from my village staring at me thinking I’ve probablv lost my mind crying while running! And I also cried when I finished my first few park runs. The sense of achievement is overwhelming!

Well done you!

Keep running, trust the process and believe in yourself!

Please keep posting on here. This has probably been my favourite post I’ve read so far!

Aw thanks so much... and SO well done for graduating yourself. Proud tears are good ones! I’m so glad the post made you giggle... at least some good came out of the experience - frankly I’m still quite traumatised 😂!! (And STILL no sign of the wind dropping!! 🙄) x
