Missed the rain... but nearly got wet

Much as I don’t mind getting wet normally, and I’ll be begging for some rain when it’s warm... todays run was 6x200m sprints with 1:30 rests... so I watched the weather, waited for the storm to pass and headed for the park. My preferred route would have been the tarmac and trail 50/50 route around the duckpond, but there were some puddles that weren’t going to be avoidable... and I didn’t want to be standing wet in between runs in the cold... so I walked up to the flowerbeds and figured the best route would be down from there and through the playground... no kids about so no worries about having to stop. This had the advantage (really?) or being on a small incline, so every other sprint would be uphill and hill sprints are good!

Run one... not too hard, well within myself. Job done. Ground tested, not to slippy. Run 2... speed up, powered up the hill... felt great. Run 3 faster again as it’s the downhill, and now I’m loving it. Run 4... 100% effort.... there’s a slight bend in the path, and I see a guy with his dog coming towards me... I naturally did what I always do... I stepped onto the grass... then I slipped a little... and I couldn’t slow down. The stream is getting close and I am fortunate enough to be running at a Bush/small tree thing (I’m really good with nature) try to stop... couple of skids and into that rather than the stream. As it happens that took me to 205m 😂. Back to the path and I figure I got lucky... it was time to back off a little for the last 2 sprints... they were not eventful. Cooled down and did stretches looking at where I left my mark in the muddy grass... and started laughing.

Maybe sprints aren’t best done on wet paths by water?!

You had a good run today UNM, hopefully your next run will be run in better weather.

I should have probably switched runs around and done sprints next time out, but I’d been looking forward to them all day.

My third option was to go down... but I was going shopping after the run and didn’t fancy Tesco while covered in mud 😂

Balance is getting better for sure... it wasn’t graceful, but I stayed up!

Wish I’d seen it 😉

So does Mrs UNM... though she can’t decide which she would have preferred, muddy me or soaking wet me... that’s love huh? She stopped laughing when I mentioned a solicitor.

It’s lucky the bush/tree was there or it could’ve been a very different result! Best save the sprinting for drier days in future 😂😂

I usually do my speed work on a football field, but wasn’t passing it today... must schedule the runs better.

You’re taking this very seriously. Have you thought about joining a running club?

For intervals I find it easiest to find a park or running track etc where you can do laps.

Yeah... normally I have a field with 2 football pitches in it... one run down is 200m, back again for a 400... right round the outside is 600 and out and round the lacrosse field makes for 1k... but I was home today and not passing there!

I can’t really do a club as I don’t think I’d run with them often... more often than not I’m busy when the local one runs. I’m considering an online one... but then again, I got this place.

Hoooweee, that was a close one! Sound more like an obstacle course - or a super Mario Bros game. Points for avoiding man with dog, points for avoiding stream, extra points for collecting tree bush thing. You've just gone up a level! 😂
